Great Double for Kilmallock and Treaty Sarsfields in 1964
The following is a record of the 1964 Limerick County Hurling and Football Championship finals with Kilmallock winning a great Minor U16 Hurling double and Treaty Sarsfields a Minor U16 Football double.

County Senior Hurling Championship Final 1964
Cappamore 5-5, Dromcollogher 1-4
Dromcollogher who were crowned county junior hurling champions in 1963 defeating Pallasgreen 3-9 to 3-3 after a replay, emulated the feat of neighbours in 1962 by reaching the senior decider the following year in 1964 but they met a rear tartar in Cappamore and were forced to take second place but still a fine achievement. That final was played at Pairc na nGael on September 13th 1964 and resulted in a 5-5 to 1-4 victory for Cappamore to take their fifth County Senior Hurling Championship title and the John Daly Cup for the first time since 1959.

County Senior Football Championship Final 1964
Ballysteen 3-7, Ballysteen 1-2
Ballysteen who won a great County Junior Football Championship in 1961 defeated city champions Monaleen by four points 1-6 to 1-2 in the final not played until April 11th 1962 in Bruff. They came through with a splendid fifteen in 1964 to add their first County Senior Football Championship in October 1964 they beat St. Patrick’s 3-7 to 1-2 in the decider at Pairc na nGael.

Adare 4-4, Croom 2-1.
When neighbours Adare and Croom clashed in the 1964 County Junior Hurling Championship Final at Pairc na nGael on 13th December 1964 ended honours even, Adare 2-7, Croom 3-4.
The replay did not take place until April 4th of the following year when Adare were good winners of their first and only Limerick County Junior A Hurling Championship title and the Irish Press Cup by 9 points, 4-4 to 2-1.

County Junior Football Championship Final 1964
Patrickswell 1-4, Croom 0-3
Patrickswell now a hurling stronghold won the first of their three Limerick County Junior Football Championship titles at Askeaton on August 29th 1965 when they beat neighbours Croom by 4 points, 1-4 to 0-3 in a belated decider of the 1964 title fight. Croom also lost the 1964 Junior Hurling decider to neighbours Adare not played until April 4th 1995.

Treaty Sarsfields won their fourth Limerick County Minor Football Championship title, a first since 1957 with an impressive ten point 2-5 to 0-1 victory over east champions Oola in the 1964 decider at Bruff on November 8th 1964.

South champions Kilmallock returned to the limelight in 1964 and they collected their third Limerick County Minor Hurling Championship title, a first since 1961 with an impressive fourteen point 8-7 to 5-2 victory over west champions Knockaderry at Pairc na nGael on 13th September 1964.

Kilmallock 4-5, Treaty Sarsfields 1-0
Kilmallock won their second Limerick County U16 Hurling Championship Title in three seasons with an impressive 4-5 to 1-0 victory over gallant Treaty Sarsfields in the 1946 decider.

Treaty Sarsfields got over the disappointment of losing the 1964 County U16 Hurling Championship Final to Kilmallock with a hard fought one point 1-3 to 1-2 victory over unlucky Oola in the 1964 County U16 Football Championship decider to take their sixth U16 Football County Football Championship title.

Great Treble For Limerick CBS In 1964
In College hurling circles the year 1964 very properly belonged to Limerick CBS who achieved a great treble Munster (Harty Cup) All-Ireland (Croke Cup) and the Sean Ryan Cup.

Dr. Harty Cup
With successive wins over four of the great Munster Schools of the 60s North Monastery, Ennis CBS, Colaiste Chriost Ri and St. Flannan’s Limerick CBS recaptured the Dr. Harty Cup. Prized trophy of the Colleges arena after thirty-two years in the hurling wilderness amidst scenes of indescribable enthusiasm as the pent-up feelings of that lengthy spell of almost half an average was let loose in that unforgettable moment of joy at Pairc nan Gael on 15th March 1964 when St. Flannan’s Ennis were overcome in the final 6-10 to 4-7. The heroes of that grand occasion were Seamus Shinnors, Newport goal, Tom O’Brien, Farrenshone, Noel O’Gorman, Newport, John Joe Fitzpatrick, Monaleen, Donie Russell, St. Patricks, Donal Manning, Prospect, Ned Power, Davis Street, Eamonn Crogan, captain, Claughaun, Pa Doherty, Greystones, Pat Donerty, Greystones, Eamonn Grimes, South Liberties, Brian Cobbe, St. Patrick’s, Pat Nash, Ahane, Tom Clohesey, Fedamore, John Kennedy, Greystones and R. Hayes, Clonlara.

Croke Cup
A month later they beat St. Mary’s of Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final and then on 26th April at Croke Park. They crowned a great achievement by taking the coveted Croke Cup – the symbol of All-Ireland College hurling supremacy beating St. Peters of Wexford in the final, 6-7 to 4-5 and Alf Murray, President of the GAA was there to see the Limerick Colleges great victory.

Sean Ryan Cup
The 10th May 1964 at Buttevant was another red-letter day for the Limerick CBS boys when they completed the great treble by winning the Sean Ryan Cup at the expense of the holders Colaiste Chriost Ri who they beat 1-9 to 2-1. The players that evening were: Tom Crowe, Pat Phelan, Tom Barry, Ger Boland, Michael Keogh, Donal Manning, Aidan Murphy, Pat Doherty, Michael Hennessy, Matt Grace, Michael O’Brien, Eamonn Grimes, Liam Ryan, Jim Roche and Jackie Kennedy.

Great Double For Doon CBS in 1964
Doon CBS won two Munster cups in 1964 – the Corn Padraig and Dr. Kinnane trophies.

Covid Update For Clubs In the 26 Counties
From 10th May: outdoor training is permitted at adult level in pods of a maximum of 15 people (including coaches). However, games are not allowed and indoor facilities must remain closed.
From 7th June: (and subject to the Public Health Situation at the time) – club games will be permitted at all levels but must be played behind closed doors.
GAA officials in Croke Park are currently liaising with the relevant Departments to seek further information on the fines details of what will be permitted at various points in the recovery plan. For the moment we would ask all our club members for patience in relation to questions no doubt have in relation to the various return dates and the specifics of what will be allowed. It is the intention of officials in Croke Park to issue a more detailed communication to clubs and counties once further information is available.

In the interim GAA officials in Croke Park would like to remind all clubs in the 26 counties of the following:
Until May 10th only training for underage teams (non-contact and in pods of 15) is permitted underage teams mean any registered team at under 18 level or below.
All indoor facilities must remain closed (exception to toilet facilities).
Fundraising events on GAA property are not currently permitted.
Gym facilities must remain closed (exception Senior Inter-County players may use their relevant club gym for individual training as long as they are following the advice in the Inter County Return to Training and Play document).

Inter County Challenge Games/U20 and Minor Training
The Allianz leagues in hurling will return this weekend May 8th/9th and in football the following weekend of May 15th/16th. The Government announcements on Thursday 29th April did not make any reference to when challenge games will be permitted at Inter County level. Nor was there any reference to when Inter-County under 20 and Minor teams may return to training. Croke Park officials are currently seeking clarity on these two points and will communicate directly with County Secretaries in this context once they receive it. Any breach of the regulations by counties or clubs will be dealt with as per appropriate rule.

May County Club Draw
The next Limerick County Club’s draw is on Saturday 29th May with a top prize of €10,000. There are a host of other prizes to be won, second prize €3,000, 3rd €2,000, 4th €1,000 and 5th to 9th €500, 10th to 13th €250, 14th to 30th €100. €13,000 Jackpot On Saturday
There was no winner of the €12,000 jackpot in the Granagh-Ballingarry GAA Club lottery held on Saturday 1st May. The numbers drawn were 11, 13, 16 and 28. All Ireland Hurling Champions In League Action On Saturday
All-Ireland senior hurling champions Limerick make the first defence of their National Hurling League Division 1 title on this Saturday 8th May when they welcome 2019 All-Ireland champions Tipperary to Pairc na nGael at 5.30pm. Limerick came into the 2021 season with every trophy at their disposal after a historic 2020 campaign. They successfully defended both their league and Munster championship titles, whilst also adding a second All-Ireland championship title in three seasons along with the Munster league title. We wish our own Donal O’Grady, manager John Kiely and all involved with the Limerick senior hurlers the best of luck on Saturday in their bid to make a winning start to the defence of the Division 1 League title.

Inter County Challenge Games/U20 and Minor Training
The Allianz leagues in hurling will return this weekend May 8th/9th and in football the following weekend of May 15th/16th. The Government announcements on Thursday 29th April did not make any reference to when challenge games will be permitted at Inter County level. Nor was there any reference to when Inter-County under 20 and Minor teams may return to training. Croke Park officials are currently seeking clarity on these two points and will communicate directly with County Secretaries in this context once they receive it. Any breach of the regulations by counties or clubs will be dealt with as per appropriate rule.

May County Club Draw
The next Limerick County Club’s draw is on Saturday 29th May with a top prize of €10,000. There are a host of other prizes to be won, second prize €3,000, 3rd €2,000, 4th €1,000 and 5th to 9th €500, 10th to 13th €250, 14th to 30th €100. There will again be an exclusive month prize of a Barcelona 8-seater cast aluminium patio set with Susan worth €1,600. €13,000 Jackpot On Saturday
There was no winner of the €12,000 jackpot in the Granagh-Ballingarry GAA Club lottery held on Saturday 1st May. The numbers drawn were 11, 13, 16 and 28. Lucky dips of €20 each went to James Kenrick, promoter O’Grady’s Spar, Ballingarry, Noreen McCarthy, promoter Donagh McCarthy, Eddie Houlihan, promoter Dan Cagney, John Kelly, promoter Adrian Farragher. All Ireland Hurling Champions In League Action On Saturday
All-Ireland senior hurling chamions Limerick make the first defence of their National Hurling League Division 1 title on this Saturday 8th May when they welcome 2019 All-Ireland champions Tipperary to Pairc na nGael at 5.30pm. Limerick came into the 2021 season with every trophy at their disposal after a historic 2020 campaign. They successfully defended both their league and Munster championship titles, whilst also adding a second All-Ireland championship title in three seasons along with the Munster league title. We wish our own Donal O’Grady, manager John Kiely and all involved with the Limerick senior hurlers the best of luck on Saturday in their bid to make a winning start to the defence of the Division 1 League title.
