Kildare defeat Limerick by two points in thrilling Tailteann Cup Final:
Tailteann Cup Senior Football Final
Kildare 1-24 Limerick 2-19
Hard luck to the Limerick senior footballers whose brave bid to win the Tailteann Cup for the first time were dashed when going under to Kildare by two points, 1-24 to 2-19, after a thrilling contest at sunny Croke Park on Saturday.
The Limerick boys looked in control midway through the second half but a strong final quarter from Kildare proved the difference in them getting over the line. In the last play of the game Limerick trailed by three points when Rory O’Brien created a goal change for the Treaty boys to take the final to extra time only to see his effort go just over the bar. Thank you to the players, management and all involved with this great Limerick side for the many outstanding displays given and wonderful memories over the season winning the Division 4 National Football League title gaining promotion to Division 3 for 2026 and reaching the Tailteann Cup Final. If this panel of players and management stay together they will be a match for the best again next season.
