Fifth Seamus Flanagan Memorial Cup win for Feohanagh-Castlemahon:
Feohanagh-Castlemahon 2-16 Granagh-Ballingarry 0-9
Feohanagh-Castlemahon with a strong all round team performance took their fifth West Junior B Hurling League title and the Seamus Flanagan Memorial Cup, a first since 2018 with an impressive 13 point, 2-16 to 0-9 over hat-trick seeking Granagh-Ballingarry in windy conditions at Pairc Caoimh Uí Luing on Saturday evening.
The Feenagh-Kilmeedy officials had their pitch in top condition for this West B Final played in front of a good crowd who gave great support to their teams with Billy Philips of Tournafulla in charge. Holders Granagh-Ballingarry were forced to line out minus a number of key players while Feohanagh-Castlemahon were at full strength. Feohanagh-Castlemahon played with the aid of the wind in the opening half but it was Granagh-Ballingarry who were first off the mark with a well taken point from play, courtesy of Tom Horgan in the opening minutes. The Feohanagh-Castlemahon boys with the wind at the backs dominated the next 16 minutes with ten unanswered white flags courtesy of Fionn Meehan play on 2 minutes, Ben Murrihy free on 4 minutes, Danny Doherty play on 6 minutes, Padraig Cagney play on 7 minutes, John Reidy play on 9 minutes, Danny O’Doherty play on 11 minutes, Damien Brouder play on 13 minutes, Ben Murrihy, line ball on 15 minutes and Cathal Lynch play on 16 and 17 minutes before Eoin Horgan finally ended 17 minutes without a Granagh-Ballingarry score when he split the uprights from a placed ball to leave 8 between the sides, Feohanagh-Castlemahon 0-10, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-2 on 18 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before white flags were traded from open play by Owen Lynch on 22 minutes and Conor Noonan on 25 minutes. Then Granagh-Ballingarry hit four wides in as many minutes before Danny Doherty landed her third white flag from open play for Feohanagh-Castlemahon to send the boys in white and blue in at the interval leading by 9, 0-12 to 0-3. Danny Doherty and Jack Mulqueen traded white flags from open play in the opening 2 minutes after the interval before a pair of white flags for the Granagh-Ballingarry boys, courtesy of Brian O’Sullivan, play on 33 minutes and Eon Horgan free a minute later to reduce the deficit to 7, Feohanagh-Castlemahon 0-13, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-6 on n34 minutes. The game ended as a contest in the next 8 minutes with a cracking Eoin Murphy goal and one by Damien Brouder to extend the Feohanagh-Castlemahon boys’ advantage to 14, 2-14 to 0-6 on 42 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before Granagh-Ballingarry No. 7 Colm Noonan split the uprights from a 65 to reduce the deficit to 13, Feohanagh-Castlemahon 2-14, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-7 at the end of the third quarter. After 5 minutes of scoreless play a pair of white flags by Ben Murrihy from a placed ball on 51 minutes and substitute Keith Lynch, 3 minutes later to extend the Feohanagh-Castlemahon boys’ advantage to 15, 2-16 to 0-7 with 8 minutes of normal time remaining. Both sides were guilty of inaccurate striking before a pair of white flags for Granagh-Ballingarry from open play courtesy of Eoin Horgan on 55 minutes and Brian Sheehy on 59 minutes to close the gap to 13, which was too little too late for the boys in black and green as the final whistle sounded shortly after to leave the Feohanagh-Castlemahon boys impressive 2-16 to 0-9 winners of their fifth West Limerick Junior B Hurling League title, a first since 2018 and the Seamus Flanagan Memorial Cup. The best of luck to Feohanagh-Castlemahon in the County Junior B Hurling League semi-final against Murroe-Boher or Pallasgreen while the Granagh-Ballingarry team will have to regroup ahead of the Dinny Cup Final and the opening round of the West Junior B Hurling Championship.
