Cappagh book semi-final spot with fourth win:

Cappagh recorded their fourth straight win in Group 1 of the Limerick County Premier Junior A Football Championship with a deserved six point 0-11 to 1-2 victory over neighbours Granagh-Ballingarry at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Wednesday evening to go top of the group on 8 points, two ahead of Athea to qualify for the semi-final.
The much-delayed Group 1 County Premier Junior A Football Championship meeting of neighbours was played in front of a small crowd in cold, dry conditions on an excellent pitch with John Paul Kiely of Croom in charge. Cappagh made all the early running with a pair of white flags from open play courtesy of Jack Lenihan and Aidan O’Shea in the opening five minutes. The Cappagh boys continued to dominate the next six minutes but failed to convert a number of point scoring chances before Granagh-Ballingarry from only their second attack were rewarded with a cracking Dean Clancy goal following good work by Eoin Horgan and Paudie Murphy to leave one between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-0, Cappagh 0-2 on 13 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before Cappagh No 14 Jack Lenihan split the uprights from a placed ball to leave the score Granagh-Ballingarry 1-0, Cappagh 0-3 at the end of the first quarter. After 6 minutes of scoreless play Cappagh No. 15 John Fitzgerald split the upright following a good solo run to leave it 0-4 to 1-0 in favour of the Cappagh boys on 22 minutes. The quality of football in the remaining 8 minutes of the opening half was poor as bot sides were guilty of inaccurate shooting and failed to add to their total and at the interval Cappagh went in still one ahead, 0-4 to 1-0. Cappagh again made a good start to the second half with white flags courtesy of Jack Lenihan from a placed ball on 32 minutes John Fitzgerlad from open play on 35 minutes before point were traded from open play by Jack Hartnett on 37 minutes and Seamus O’Carroll on 40 minutes Granagh-Ballingarry substitute Jack O’Donoghue from open play on 43 minutes and Eoin Barry from the penalty spot two minutes later to leave the Cappagh boys three ahead, 0-8 to 1-2 at the end of the third quarter. Both sides were guilty of inaccurate shooting in the next six minutes before Cappagh dominated the final nine minutes with a trio of white flags courtesy of Seamus O’Carroll, free on 51 minutes, Barry Lenihan play on 55 minutes and substitute Richard Lenihan free on 60 minutes. At the final whistle Cappagh were deserved six point, 0-11 to 1-2 winners to go top of Group 1 in the County Premier Junior A Football Championship on eight points, who ahead of Athea to qualify for the semi-final and Granagh-Ballingarry join Kilteely-Dromkeen and Mungret-St. Paul’s at the bottom of the group on two points and will need to defeat Kilteely-Dromkeen in the final series of games to be in with a chance on scoring difference, to finish third in the group to qualify for the quarter-final. Cappagh scored 0-6 from play, 0-4 from frees and 0-1 from a penalty, Granagh-Ballingarry scored all 1-2 from play.

The meeting of bottom of the table Kilteely-Dromkeen and Granagh-Ballingarry in the final found of Group 1 in the Limerick County Premier Junior A Football Championship went the way of the East Limerick side Kilteely-Dromkeen with a comfortable 12 point, 1-15 to 0-6 victory over gallant Granagh-Ballingarry played in cold, windy conditions at Camogue Rovers GAA club grounds in Meanus on Saturday to finish fourth on the League/Championship table on 4 points and Granagh-Ballingarry joint bottom on 2 points with Mungret-St. Paul’s, who play Cappamore in the relegation final after losing out on the head to head rule due to going under to Granagh-Ballingarry in the opening round.
This East v West County Premier Junior A Football Championship Final Group 1 game was played in front of a small crowd on an excellent pitch in cold, windy conditions, with Paul McMahon of South Liberties in charge. The Kilteely-Dromkeen boys with the wind at their backs in the opening half made all the early running with four unanswered white flags in the opening 10 minutes, courtesy of Denis Ahern free, David Hannon, Dylan Holmes and Sean O’Dea from open play before points were traded from open play by Granagh-Ballingarry No. 13 Paudie Murphy on 11 minute and David Hannon 2 minutes later to leave four between the sides, Kilteely-Dromkeen 0-5, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-1 on 13 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before white flags were traded from open play by Edward on 15 minutes and Charles Holmes on 17 minutes before a trio of white flags for the East Limerick side through Charles Holmes free on 19 minutes, Denis Ahern free on 21 minutes and David Hannon play, two minutes later to extend the Kilteely-Dromkeen boys’ advantage to seven, 0-9 to 0-2 on 23 minutes. Cathal O’Keeffe finally ended 9 minutes with a Granagh-Ballingarry score when he split the uprights from open play on 24 minutes before a pair of white flags for the boys in red and white, courtesy of Robbie T. Holmes, play on 27 minutes and Charles Holmes free on 30 minutes to leave Kilteely-Dromkeen in at the interval leading by 8, 0-11 to 0-3.
On the resumption points were traded by Brian O’Grady from open play on 32 minutes and Paudie Murphy for a mark on 33 minutes, Jack Cagney from a 45 on 35 minutes and Charles Holmes from a placed ball two minutes later to leave the Kilteely-Dromkeen boys still 8 ahead, 0-13 to 0-5 on 37 minutes. Jack Cagney won a point back from open play for the Granagh-Ballingarry boys on 39 minutes before Brian O’Grady finished past Granagh-Ballingarry keeper David Clancy 2 minutes later to extend the Kilteely-Dromkeen boys’ advantage to 10, 1-13 to 0-6 on 41 minutes. Both sides were guilty of inaccurate shooting in the next 10 minutes before Kilteely-Dromkeen’s No. 6 Sean O’Dea on 52 minutes and No. 8 Robbie T Holmes on 55 minutes finally found the range, when they split the uprights from open play to extend their side’s advantage to 10. Both sides failed to add to their total in the final 5 minutes helped no doubt by the difficult, windy conditions to leave the East Limerick side Kilteely-Dromkeen comfortable 12 point 1-15 to 0-6 winners of their second brace of points win Group 1 of the County Premier Junior A Football Championship to finish fourth in the Group 1 League/Championship table on 4 points and Granagh-Ballingarry joint bottom on 2 points with Mungret-St. Paul’s, who play Cappamore in the relegation final after losing out on the head to head rule to the Granagh-Ballingarry team in the opening round.

Junior B Semi Final Spot up for grabs tonight
Ballingarry is the venue at 6.30pm tonightWednesday 18th September for the mouth-watering top of the table on six points clash of holders Granagh/Ballingarry and Feenagh/Kilmeedy in the final group stage games in Group 1 of the West Limerick Junior B Hurling League. An exciting game is in prospect with the prize for the winners a place in the semi final with the losers to play the third placed team in Group 2 on four points, Newcastlewest, in the quarter final.
Ballingarry is the place to be tonight for all Gaels in Granagh and Ballingarry to cheer on the boys in black and green to their fourth straight win in Group 1 of the West Junior B Hurling Championship to finish top in eight points to qualify straight for the semi final.
County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 6:
Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock is the venue on this Saturday 21st September at 2pm for the clash of Granagh/Ballingarry and Blackrock in Round 6 of the Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship. Both sides will enter Saturday’s game joint fifth on the league/championship table on four points and a win is a must for both to keep their chances of a semi final spot alive. Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock is the place to be for all Gaels in Granagh and Ballingarry this Saturday 21st September at 2pm to cheer on the boys in black and green to a third win to get their County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship campaign back on track.

Strictly Come Dancing Fundraiser:
Excitement is building as the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Camogie and ladies football clubs prepare for a fantastic night of entertainment and fundraising. On Saturday 12th October the clubs will jointly host a Strictly Come Dancing event at the Charleville Park Hotel where 13 couples (Deirdre Shelton and Bobby Houlihan (Leah Twomey and Colm Noonan), Eoin Herlihy and Emma Noonan), Josh Quille Mulcaire and Amy Hartnett (Annemarie O’Keeffe and Luke Flynn), Louise Kelly and John O’Keeffe), (Jack Cagney) and Aislinn Herlihy, (Orlando Doherty and Eoin Casey), Lauren Clancy and Mikey O’Keeffe), Kayleigh Twomey and Seán English), Aisling Irwin and Seán Murphy), club chairperson (Andrew Holmes and Lynsey Buckley). (Ger Ryan and Rachel Irwin) will take to the stage showcasing their dancing skills in a bid for votes and donations.
This exciting event pro9mises to be a fun-filled evening bringing together dancers from all the GAA codes, backroom staff and committee members. With weeks of practice behind them, the dedication from the dancers has been remarkable, as they step out of their comfort zones, to put on the best performance possible. Funds raised from this event will go towards the continued development of the club’s grounds and facilities, benefitting both young and old members of our community.

The next Limerick County GAA Clubs draw is on Saturday 28th September with a top prize of €10,000. There are a host of other prizes to be won 2nd €3,000, 3rd €2,000, 4th €1,000, 5th Executive Star prize, 6th to 9th €500, 10th to 13th €250, 14th to 30th €100. Photographs of GAA Volunteers to make up new Michael Cusack Mosaic:
A mosaic made up of hundreds of photos of GAA volunteers coming together to represent an image of GAA founder Michael Cusack which will hang proudly in the new Cusack Stand for many years to come in Croke Park GAA. Volunteers have an opportunity to literally be a part of the newly overhauled Cusack Stand. The theme of the refurbishment is the vibrant spirit of volunteerism that drives our Association. One of the flagship pieces envisaged is a mosaic made up of hundreds of photos of today’s volunteers coming together to represent an image of GAA founder, Michael Cusack, which will hand proudly in the Cusack Stand for many years to come. Would you or someone from your club like to be involved? Here’s how. We are looking for approx. 500 images of volunteers from our clubs at home and abroad. The image must be a head and shoulders snap of the volunteer against a mainly bright background. The image file size needs to be a minimum of 4mg canegabytes.???? A photo taken on a Smartphone for example is sufficient. The person being photographed must be over 18 years of age. The person must give consent for their image to be used in this piece of artwork. Consent is given by completing a document accompanied by the photograph to Cusackmosaic@gaa.ie directly. We hope to get a great response from clubs and create something unique that represents our voluntary ethos and celebrated the contribution of our volunteers.

€6,700 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of the €6,600 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club lottery draw on Saturday 14th September in Buckley’ Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were2, 3, 25 and 27.
