Back to Back wins for Granagh-Ballingarry in Intermediate Championship:
Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 4
Granagh-Ballingarry 1-20 Na Piarsaigh 0-12
Granagh-Ballingarry after suffering two straight defeats made it back to back wins in the Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship (Michael O’Leary Memorial Cup) with a comfortable eleven point 1-20 to 0-12 victory over a gallant Na Piarsaigh second string side at Mungret-St. Paul’s GAA Club Grounds on Sunday to go joint fourth on the league championship table on four points with Garryspillane.
This clash of the 2022 and 2023 second tier Intermediate Hurling Championship in round 4 of this year’s County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship was played in front of a big crowd, who gave great support to their sides on an excellent pitch in ideal conditions with Tom McGlinchey, Newport, in charge.
2016 All Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship medal winner Alan Dempsey won possession straight from the throw-in and laid off to Kevin Hogan, who split the uprights for the Caherdavin boys inside a minute. Then Granagh-Ballingarry keeper Denis O’Connor was forced to bring off a top class save from Na Piarsaigh No. 20 Pa O’Neill before Michael Russell got the Granagh-Ballingarry boys off the mark when he split the uprights following a good solo run for 0-1 each on 3 minutes. Then white flags were traded from open play by Darragh Casey on 5 minutes. Arcus Hogan on 6 minutes, Pa O’Neill play on 9 minutes and Sam O’Connor frees three minutes later to level the score for the third time at 0-3 each on 12 minutes.
The Granagh-Ballingarry boys now began to up their game and dominated the next 8th minutes with a white flag from a placed ball by Sean O’Connor on 14 minutes followed by a trio of white flags from open play courtesy of Cathal O’Keeffe 16 minutes, Eoin Lynch on 18 minutes and Cathal O’Keeffe again two minutes later to leave the boys in black and green four ahead, 0-7 to 0-3 on 20 minutes. Then John Sheehan finally ended 11 minutes without a Na Piarsaigh score when he split the uprights from open play on 21 minutes to reduce the deficit to three, Granagh-Ballingarry 0-7, Na Piarsaigh 0-4. The boys in black and green dominated the remaining 9 minutes of this opening half with white flags by Sean O’Connor from a placed ball on 22 minutes and open play on 24 minutes followed by Cathal O’Keeffe on 26 minutes before Luke pointed from open play three minutes later to send Granagh-Ballingarry in at the interval leading by 9, 1-10 to 0-4.
The opening 7 minutes after the interval were evenly contested with white flags traded by Sean O’Connor play on 32 minutes and Pa O’Neill free on 34 minutes, Cathal O’Keeffe play on 36 minutes and Pa O’Neill free a minute later to leave 9 again between the sides Granagh-Ballingarry 1-12, Na Piarsaigh 0-6 on 37 minutes. Then a pair of white flags from placed balls for Na Piarsaigh by Pa O’Neill on 40 and 42 minutes to reduce the deficit to seven before points were traded by Cathal O’Keeffe play on 43 minutes and Pa O’Neill free on 44 minutes, Damian O’Donovan play on 45 minutes and Marcus Hogan play two minutes later to leave 7 again between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-14, Na Piarsaigh 0-10 on 47 minutes. Then a pair of white flags for Granagh-Ballingarry courtesy of Luke Flynn play on 49 minutes and keeper Denis O’Connor’s long range free on 50 minutes were cancelled out from open play by Alan Dempsey on 52 minutes and sub Bradley Moran two minutes later to leave 7 still between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry 1-16, Na Piarsaigh 0-12 on 54 minutes. The final 6 minutes plus was all Granagh-Ballingarry with four unanswered white flags from open play through Sean O’Connor on 55 and 57 minutes, Micheal Russell on 59 minutes and Sean O’Connor again on 61 minutes to leave the Granagh-Ballingarry boys comfortable eleven point 1-20 to 0-12 winners of their second successive brace of points in the Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship after suffering two straight defeats to go joint fourth on the league/championship table on four points with Garryspillane to stay in contention for a semi-final spot and can now look forward with confidence to the next round against joint second on 6 points with Bruff, Effin this Saturday 7th September in Paddy Carroll Park, Ballyagran at 4.30pm. Granagh-Ballingarry scored 1-16 from play and 0-4 from frees and hit 8 wides. Na Piarsaigh scored 0-7 from play and 0-5 from frees and hit 17 wides.

Holders Granagh-Ballingarry recorded their second successive win in Group 1 of the West Limerick Junior B Hurling Championship (Mary Sexton Memorial Cup) with a comfortable 21 point, 5-18 to 1-9 victory over gallant neighbours Knockaderry at sunny Dromcollogher on Friday evening to go joint top of the group on 6 points with Feenagh-Kilmeedy who they play in the final Group 1 stage with the winners to qualify straight for the semi-final. The Dromcollogher-Broadford officers had their pitch in top class condition for this West Junior B Hurling Championship Group 1 Round 3 clash of great rivals and neighbours played in front of a good crowd with Billy Phillips of Tournafulla in charge. Knockaderry No. 13 Eamonn Fitzgerald and Granagh-Ballingarry No. 14 John O’Grady traded white flags in as many minutes from open play for Granagh-Ballingarry courtesy of Edward Sheehy and Jack O’Donoghue, two, to leave the holders 3 ahead, 0-4 to 0-1 on 5 minutes. White flags were traded by JJ Condon from open play on 6 minutes and Pat Carroll from a placed ball on 7 minutes before a pair of white flags from open play for the Knockaderry guys courtesy of Eamon Fitzgerald on 8 minutes and JJ Condon a minute later to reduce the deficit to the minimum. The Granagh-Ballingarry boys now began to up their game striking 2-5 in a fourteen minute spell courtesy of a cracking John O’Grady goal followed up by four Pat Carroll points from play, free3, 65 and free before Jack Hartnett raised their second green flag and Thomas O’Donovan pointed from open play to leave the boys in black and green 12 ahead, 2-10 to 0-4 on 23 minutes. The Knockaderry boys far from being overawed, had a cracking Keith Danaher goal on 24 minutes followed up by a well taken point from open play by Jack Corkery on 26 minutes before Granagh-Ballingarry finished the opening half strong with a second Jack Hartnett green flag to leave 11 between the sides, Granagh-Ballingarry 3-10, Knockaderry 1-5 at the interval.
Michael O’Connor and Peter Hughes traded white flags from general play in the opening three minutes after the interval before Limerick 2013 Munster senior hurling championship winning captain Donal O’Grady raised the Granagh-Ballingarry boys’ fourth green flag to leave it Granagh-Ballingarry 4-11, Knockaderry 1-6 on 35 minutes. JJ Condon won a point back from a 65 for the Knockaderry boys on 37 minutes before a pair of white flags for the boys from Knockfierna through Pat Carroll from a placed ball on 40 and Jack Hartnett from open play three minutes later to leave it Granagh-Ballingarry 4-13, Knockaderry 1-7 on 43 minutes. JJ Condon won a point back for the Knockaderry boys on 45 minutes before a pair of white flags from open play for the boys in black and green courtesy of Donal O’Grady on 48 minutes and substitute Brian Mulqueen on 51 minutes followed by a second Donal O’Grady green flag four minutes later to leave it 5-15 to 1-8 in favour of Granagh-Ballingarry on 55 minutes. JJ Condron split the uprights from a placed ball for Knockaderry on 56 minutes, before Granagh-Ballingarry finished strong with a trio of white flags through Pat Carroll from a placed ball on 57 minutes, Thomas O’Donovan on 58 minutes and substitute Conor O’Donoghue on 30 minutes from open play at the final whistle Granagh-Ballingarry were comfortable 5-18 to 1-9 winners of their second successive brace of points in group 2 of the West Junior B Hurling Championship to go joint top of the group on 6 points with Feenagh-Kilmeedy, who they play in the final group stage game with the winner to qualify straight for the semi-final.

Strictly Come Dancing Volunteers in Training:
Thank you to all the 28 volunteers who are now in training once a week for the Granagh Ballingarry GAA Camogie and Ladies Football Strictly Come Dancing competition which takes place on Saturday 12th October in the Charleville Park Hotel. 14 couples will take to the dance floor on the night to battle it out for the title with all money raised going to the further development of facilities for our club’s future and current players. Training consists of a 45 minute slot a week for 12 weeks with a dance instructor who will pair individuals off into 14 couples. Each couple will be set up with an i-donate page online where money raised will correlate to votes on the night. €6,500 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of the €6,400 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club lottery draw on Saturday 31st August in the Dinny A’s Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 3, 17, 18 and 26.
