2021 and 2022 defeated semi finalists Granagh Ballingarry recorded their third straight win in group 2 of the Limerick County Intermediate Hurling Championship with a comfortable 22 point, 4-28 to 1-15 victory over gallant neighbours Croom in ideal conditions at Páirc Caoimh Ó Lúing, Feenagh on Thursday evening to go top of the group on 6 points, two ahead of Knockainey and St. Kieran’s.
The Feenagh Kilmeedy officials had their pitch in top class condition for this third round group two County Intermediate Hurling championship clash of near neighbours played in front of a good crowd who gave great support to their side with John O’Halloran of Bruree in charge.
Conor Laffan, of Croom, split the uprights from open play inside the opening minutes before five unanswered white flags from open play for Granagh Ballingarry in as many minutes, courtesy of Sean O’Connor, Cathal O’Keeffe, Damien O’Donovan and Paudie Murphy to leave it 0-5 to 0-1 in favour of the boys from Knockfierna in 6 minutes. The next 13 minutes were close and exciting with play flowing from end to end with points traded by Mark Reidy (play) on 10 minutes and Damien O’Donovan (play) on 12 minutes, Michael Russell (play) 13 minutes, Jack Daly (play) on 14 minutes, Conor Laffan (play) on 15 minutes and Sean O’Connor (play) on 17 minutes, Josh Quille Mulcaire (play) on 18 minutes, Conor Allis (play) a minute later to leave still four between the sides, Granagh Ballingarry 0-9, Croom 0-5 on 19 minutes. Then a pair of white flags for Croom, from open play, through Jack Daly on 20 minutes and Conor Laffan two minutes later to reduce the deficit to two, 0-9 to 0-7 on 22 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before white flags were traded from open play, Damien O’Donovan on 24 minutes and Jack Daly on 25 minutes and from placed balls by Sean O’Connor on 26 minutes and Jack Daly on 27 minutes before a pair of white flags from open play courtesy of Michael Russell on 28 minutes and Luke Flynn a minute later to extend the Granagh Ballingarry boys’ advantage to four 0-13 to 0-9 on 29 minutes. Jack Daly won a point back from a placed ball for Croom in added time to close the gap to three, Granagh Ballingarry 0-13, Croom 0-11 at the interval.
Cathal O’Keeffe, Darragh Casey and Sean O’Connor landed a trio of white flags from open play for Granagh Ballingarry in the opening four minutes after the interval before points were traded from open play by Jack Murray on 35 minutes and Micheal Russell a minute later to leave six between the sides, Granagh Ballingarry 0-17, Croom 0-11 on 36 minutes. Then Sean O’Connor extended the Granagh Ballingarry boys’ advantage to seven when he split the uprights from a placed ball on 39 minutes before points were traded from open play by Paudie Murphy on 41 minutes and substitute Mark O’Brien three minutes later to leave seven again between the sides, Granagh Ballingarrry 0-19, Croom 0-12 on 44 minutes. The first green flag of the game arrived courtesy of Granagh Ballingarry’s no 13 Paudie Murphy on 45 minutes and Luke Flynn followed this up with white flags from open play on 46 and 47 minutes and Jack Cagney on 48 minutes before points were traded from open play by Conor Laffan on 49 minutes and Michael Russell a minute later to leave thirteen between the sides, Granagh Ballingarry 1-23, Croom 0-13 on 50 minutes. The Granagh Ballingarry boys showed their class with 3-5 in a nine minute spell with points from open play Jose Quille Mulcaire and Sean O’Connor on 51 and 52 minutes, followed by a Luke Flynn green flag on 52 minutes and points by Sean O’Connor from a placed ball on 54 and Damien O’Donovan from open play on 55 minutes, before Paudie Murphy raised his second green flag on 57 minutes and Luke Flynn raised a white flag on 58 minutes and substitute Donal O’Grady raised the black and green’s fourth green flag a minute later to leave it Granagh Ballingarry 4-28, Croom 0-13 with one minute of normal time remaining on the clock. The Croom boys failed to be overawed with a well taken point from open play by Conor Laffan on 60 minutes followed by a cracking Mark Reidy goal on 61 minutes and a point from open play by Jack Daly on 62 minutes, which was too little, too late for the boys in blue and white. At the final whistle Granagh Ballingarry were worthy 22 point, 4-28 to 1-14 winners of their third straight brace of points in group 2 of the Limerick County Intermediate hurling championship to go top of the table on 6 points, two ahead of Knockainey and St. Kieran’s to stay in contention for the knockout stages of the championship and can look forward with confidence to their next outing against last year’s County Junior A hurling championship St. Kieran’s on 4 points this Saturday 9th September in Newcastle West at 6.30pm, while Croom pointless at the bottom of the table play joint second on 4 points with Knockainey Feohanagh Castlemahon on Thursday 7th September in Sean Finn’s Park, Rathkeale at 6.30-pm, 4-25 from play and 0-3 from frees. Croom scored 1-13 from placed ball and 0-1 from a free.

West Limerick Junior B Hurling Championship Semi Final
In difficult wet conditions at Páirc Caoimh Uí Lúing, Feenagh on Friday evening West and County Junior B hurling league champions and last year’s defeated finalists Granagh Ballingarry recorded a fourteen point 1-17 to 2-5 victory over gallant Killeedy to qualify for the semi final of the West Junior B Hurling Championship against holders Knockaderry on this Sunday 10th September in Sean Finn’s Park, Rathkeale at 6pm. A good crowed turned out to watch this Junior B Hurling Championship quarter final clash despite the wet weather conditions played on an excellent pitch with Kieran Guina of Feohanagh Castlemahon, nephew of the great Feenagh Kilmeedy Gael Jim Long in charge. Killeedy no 12 John Aherne split the uprights from a 65 in the second half, minutes before Eoin Lynch, from open play on 4 minutes and John O’Grady from a 65 two minutes later raised white flags for Granagh Ballingarry to leave it 0-1 to 0-2 in favour of the black and greens on 6 minutes. Then after five minutes of scoreless, points were traded from open play by John Cunningham on 11 minutes and Eoin Lynch two minutes later to leave the Granagh Ballingarry boys again one ahead 0-3 to 0-2 on 13 minutes. A couple of wides were exchanged before four unanswered white flags for Granagh Ballingarry, courtesy of Eoin Lynch (play) on 17 minutes, John O’Grady (free) on 19 minutes, Eoin Lynch (play) on 23 minutes and (a free) on 19 minutes, Eoin Lynch (play) on 23 minutes and (free) on 23 minutes to leave it 0-7 to 0-2 in favour of the boys from Knockfierna. Granagh Ballingarry hit a trio of wides before points were traded from open play by Ben Mulcahy on 27 minutes and Eoin Horgan on 30 minutes to send Granagh Ballingarry in at the interval leading by five 0-8 to 0-3. Granagh Ballingarry dominated the opening six minutes after the interval with a trio of white flags courtesy of Eoin Horgan (play) and John O’Grady (2 frees) to extend their advantage to eight 0-11 to 0-3 on 36 minutes. Then after four minutes of scoreless play John Aherne finally opened the Killeedy boys’ second half account when he split the uprights following a good solo run to reduce the deficit to seven 0-11 to 0-4 on 41 minutes. Then Eoin Horgan cut through the Killeedy defence only to see his shot for goal bring off a top class save by keeper John Kennedy, only to see veteran player Mike Carroll finish the rebound to the back of the Killeedy net on 42 minutes and Eolin Herlihy on 43 minutes and Eoin Lynch on 44 and 45 minutes follow up with white flags from play to extend the Granagh Ballingarry boys advantage to thirteen, 1-14 to 0-4 at the end of the third quarter. Wides were exchanged before points were traded from placed balls by John Ahern on 48 minutes and Eoin Lynch on 51 minutes before a pair of white flags for the Granagh Ballingarry boys, courtesy of Eoin Horgan from open play on 53 minutes and Eoin Lynch from a placed ball two minutes to extend the League champions’ advantage to fifteen 1-17 to 0-5 on 55 minutes. To be fair to the Killeedy boys they never game up and were rewarded with a pair of green flags through John Cunningham from a placed ball on 57 minutes and substitute Charles Butler on 60 minutes, which was too little too late for the boys in blue and white. At the final whistle Granagh Ballingarry were worthy fourteen point 1-17 to 2-5 winners to qualify for a clash with holders Knockaderry in the semi final of the West Junior B Hurling Championship on this Sunday 10th September in Sean Finn’s Park, Rathkeale in a rematch of last year’s thrilling final won by a point 2-16 to 4-9 by Knockaderry, courtesy of a late M. All roads lead to Newcastle West this Saturday 9th September at 6pm for the eagerly-awaited clash of table toppers Granagh-Ballingarry and joint second place with Knockainey, last year’s County Junior A Hurling champions St. Kieran’s in round 4 of group 2 in the Limerick County Intermediate Hurling Championship. Tremendous support is anticipated for both clubs as Granagh-Ballingarry aim for fourth straight win after impressive victories over Knockainey 1-26 to 1-13, Feohanagh-Castlemahon 3-21 to 0-8 and neighbours Croom 4-28 to 1-15 to stay top of the group 2 table on 8 points to qualify straight for the semi-final while St. Kieran’s joint second on 4 points with Knockainey after defeating Croom 2-15 to 0-14, going under to Murroe-Boher 0-22 to 0-13 and a one point 1-10 to 0-12 victory over Feohanagh-Castlemahon last time out. So Newcastle West is the place to be this Saturday at 6pm for all Granagh-Ballingarry Gaels to cheer on the boys in black and green and their management team to a fourth straight in group 2 of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship to qualify for the semi-final.

West Junior B Hurling Championship semi-final
Sean Finns Park, Rathkeale is the venue this Sunday 10th September at 6pn for the eagerly-awaited clash of West and County Junior B Hurling league winners and last year’s defeated finalists Granagh-Ballingarry and neighbours holders Knockaderry in the West Limerick Junior B Hurling Championship semi-final in a rematch of last year’s thrilling decider won by a point, 2-16 to 4-9 by Knockaderry, courtesy of a late Michael O’Connor goal at Sean Finns Park, Rathkeale on Saturday 22nd October. The Granagh-Ballingarry boys reversed that final result with an eight point, 2-17 to 2-9 victory over the Knockaderry boys in round 3 of group 1 in the West Junior B Hurling League at Ballingarry on Friday 28th April. Both sides are in Sunday’s semi-final on merit after playing a lot of good hurling on the way. League winners Granagh-Ballingarry finished top of group 12 on 6 points with three straight wins over Monagea, Askeaton and Adare to qualify for a quarter-final meeting with Killeedy, who they defeated by 1-17 to 2-5 and Knockaderry, top of group 2 on four points, courtesy of wins over St. Kieran’s and Croagh-Kilfinny to qualify for a quarter-final meeting with Feenagh-Kilmeedy, who they defeated by a point, 0-16 to 1-12 to set up Sunday evening’s semi-final clash with Granagh-Ballingarry. An exciting game is in prospect and y our support would be welcome to cheer on the boys in black and green and their management team in their bid to book a place in the West Junior B Hurling Championship final for the second year in a row and reverse last year’s one point final defeat at the hands of the Knockaderry boys.

County U13 Division 2 Hurling Championship semi-final
Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale is the venue on this Saturday 9th September at 12 noon for the clash of Killeedy/Tournafulla and last year’s defeated finalists Granagh-Ballingarry in the County U-13 Division2 Hurling Championship semi-final. Granagh-Ballingarry finished top of the group on 18 points, one ahead of Mungret-St. Paul’s and Killeedy-Tournafulla in fourth on 12 points to set up Saturday’s semi-final clash when the sides met in the opening round of the competition on Thursday 30th March at Raheenagh and the Granagh-Ballingarry boys recorded a thrilling one point, 2-9 to 2-8 victory.

€1,300 Jackpot on Saturday:
There was no winner of €1,000 jackpot in the Granagh/Ballingarry GAA Club lottery draw on Saturday September 2nd in Denny A’s Bar, Ballingarry. The numbers drawn were 3, 17, 24 and 32.
