Great Start for the Juniors
Our Junior hurlers got off to a successful start with a win in their first game in the South Junior B League against Effin in Effin on Sunday. Glenroe got off to quick start with two Goals from Ger Leahy and one from Maurice O’ Brien gave Glenroe a 3-01 to 1-04 lead going into the first water break. They came out in the same fashion after the water break, another Goal from Ger Leahy and points from Bob Frewen and Michael John Farrell gave Glenroe a commanding seven point lead at half time with scores at 4-04 to 1-06. Six points from Bob Frewen, Michael John Farrell and Maurice O’Brien in the third quarter of the game stretched the lead to eleven points with some superb defending from defence had limited Effin to only two points in this period, the scores going into the last water break the scores were 4-10 to 1-08. Effin rallied at the end of the game with a couple of goals at the end of the game to make it a nervy ending but a few insurance scores from Bob Frewen and Maurice O’ Brien made the game safe with the ending scoreline of 4-13 to 3-11. A great team performance and a great start for the new management team of Shane Hennessy and Damien Cremins.

Tough start in the South Senior League
Glenroe Premier Intermediate team got their season started on Saturday night in Garryspillane against Garryspillane. Garryspillane took an early lead at the first water break with an early goal despite points from Mark O’Connell and Diarmuid McCarthy before going off early with an injury. Garryspillane went in with a four point lead into the first water break with the scores 1-04 to 0-03. The game followed the same pattern with the four point lead staying the same with the two teams trading points until the break Mark O’ Connell scoring a couple of frees with the scores at 1-08 to 0-07. The second half followed a different pattern with Glenroe struggling to get to grips with the game and struggled to get scores on the board. Some deadly finishing and great long-range striking took the game out of Glenroe’s reach with scores going into the final water break 3-14 to 0-11 points to Garryspillane. Despite a late goal from Mark O’Connell, it was not enough to get Glenroe back in the game with Garryspillane running out eventual winners by a scoreline of 3-21 to 1-13. Tough start for Glenroe but a long season ahead and will look to bounce back against Kilmallock on Thursday.
Team: Ian O’Sullivan, Jimmy Barry Murphy, Patrick McSweeney, Eoin Gallahue, Brian O’Connell (0-1), Stephen Walsh, Sean Clancy, Donal Kelly, Ciaran Kelly, Mark O’Connell (1-6, 0-4 from frees), Eoin Walsh, Diarmuid McCarthy (0-1), Shaun Moloney (0-1), Eoin O’Mahony (0-1), Shane O’ Donoghue (0-1).
