FIELD DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Glenroe GAA Development Project
New AstroTurf for Glenroe GAA
We have received an amazing €143,000 from Sports Capital and a further €70,000 from Tomar Trust to get our Project underway. We must now commence a massive fundraising campaign to raise in excess of €100,000. A number of events will be organised in 2022/2023 to ensure we reach our target. To commence our fundraising activities We are asking you to consider sponsoring a square of AstroTurf at a cost of €250. This square of AstroTurf can be sponsored by an individual or a family. We also ask that if you do wish to support our campaign that you do so through the Tax Relief Scheme. All what this will imply for you is the filling out of a form but the financial gains for our development project will be huge. Should you require any further information or have any questions and/or queries do not hesitate to contact a member of our Fundraising Committee (contact details attached). Forms for Tax Relief Scheme available from the club or any member of the fundraising committee. These forms were also distributed at our Launch Night in the Firgrove on Saturday last April 30th. You can also donate online through Swoofee on the Glenroe Social Media Pages.

Glenroe Preget a valuable win in Hospital
Glenroe put in a memorable performance against one of the favourites for the tournament Monaleen on Saturday evening in Hospital. Glenroe had a much changed line up from their first day out but from the get go Glenroe looked like they were on form with Mark O’Connell being extremely accurate on the frees all day. The early encounters in the game were very close until a decisive moment in the game where Patrick McSweeney in his new position of full forward was taken down and the referee spread out his arms to give a penalty. The resulting penalty was cooly dispatched by Mark O’Connell. This gave Glenroe a 1-11 to 0-10 lead over Monaleeen. Glenroe had to be ready to face a stern test in the second half from Monaleen, they responded excellently with some outstanding scores from Brian O’Connell and Ciaran Kelly. Monaleen kept pushing but the defence stood strong this along with more frees from Mark O’Connell and a huge effort from goalie David McCarthy from his own 21. Glenroe never looked like they were going to give up the lead in the second half and this was rubber stamped with a late goal from Eoin Walsh to all but confirm the win. Monaleen
got a late consolation goal despite some heroic defending from Glenroe. The final score finished 2-21 Glenroe 1-18. Well done to the team and management on a superb win, they play Cappamore on Saturday the 13th of August at 6:45 in Hospital.

Glenroe Juniors start championship with a draw
Glenroe Junior B’s start the season with a draw against Bruree in Bruree in an exciting encounter on Wednesday 3rd of August. Glenroe started fast with a goal from Maurice O’ Brien along with a few frees from Bob Frewen they looked in control at the start. Glenroe asserted their dominance after this with another two goal one from Maurice O’Brien again and the other a lovely flick from Thomas McDonnell. This gave Glenroe the lead going into half time with the scoreline 3-03 Glenroe to 0-06 Bruree. However Bruree looked a different team in the second half with some excellent score and quickly turned around the deficit. Glenroe got three points from Darren Carroll and Bob Frewen at the start of the half but then we’re dominated in the second half failing to score for 14 minutes until another bit of brilliance from Thomas McDonnell near the end to put Glenroe in the driving seat. Glenroe looked destined for victory for it only to be snatched away from them at the death unfortunately. The final score was Glenroe 4-8 Bruree 2-14. Best of luck to the team in their next game on Tuesday 9th of August against Camogue Rovers in Glenroe.
