GERALD GRIFFIN’S GAA CLUB NOTES
Gerald Griffin’s Ladies/Underage Teams
Our Under 15’s team played a determined and entertaining game vs St. Kieran’s last Monday night. Although they did not win, they showed great heart, work rate and skills and gave it everythings they had. Well done to them, they play again in one week in the final game of the group stages.
Well done to our U19’s last Tuesday night who put in a great performance & never gave up against a very strong Old Mill team. It wasn’t our night but they showed some great heart & their day will come. Best of luck to the girls playing again this Wednesday evening against Mungret in Mungret.
Well done to the under 8’s and under 10’s who put in a great performance in Athea Wednesday evening, despite conditions being poor.
Munster Senior Hurling Final
Well done to the Limerick hurlers on a fantastic win against Tipperary in Cork last Sunday. A final score of Limerick 2-29 to Tipperary 3-21 with a great turn around in the second half.

Our Sincere Condolences
Our whole community is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic news and untimely passing of young Darren Whelan. We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to the Whelan family on their tragic loss. To Geraldine, Eddie, Gavin, Eamon, aunts, uncles, cousins and a wide circle of friends, we send our heartfelt condolences.
Darren, along with his brother Gavin, played underage for Gerald Griffins Club up to u/12, when they moved to the parish of Kildimo. Such lovely memories of their involvement in our underage teams. A lovely young boy with lots of spirit which made him stand out. Darren played outfield for our underage teams and was extremely talented. We were all sorry to lose the boys to Kildimo/Pallaskenry but delighted to see Darren and his brothers continue with the GAA. Darren had the opportunity to play hurling with Kildimo where he excelled.
Darren never lost touch with the parish of Loughill/Ballyhahill. We met Darren on a St. Stephen’s day where he was out with the Loughill Wren Boys playing the bodhran, he had that same lovely impish grin that he had when playing with us, and what a fine young man he turned out to be. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé a anam dílis.
The family have set up a fundraiser in memory of Darren, for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who helped the family to bring Darren home. If anyone is able to donate, you can do so at the link below. https://gofund.me/595ac979
