Gerald Griffin’s Intermediate Footballers Win Against St. Senan’s
Well done to our intermediate footballers who had a brilliant win against St. Senan’s last Tuesday evening, June 8th.
The first point of the game was scored by St. Senan’s, followed by a point by Jamie Long soon after. Patrick O’Shaughnessy scored a point then for Gerald Griffin’s with another by St. Senan’s minutes later. 10 minutes into the game, the score was 0-3 all, as Diarmuid Noonan blocked a goal. With minutes left of the first quarter, Paul Brouder made a great run down the field and
another point was scored for Griffin’s, this one by Michael Thornton. There was another wide for Senan’s just before the water break.
8 minutes into the second quarter, Thornton scored a point from a free kick in. Griffin’s keeper, Brian Scanlon, made a couple of great saves about 12 minutes in. However, this was followed up by a point from Senan’s. Soon after, Conor Cregan got a point for Griffin’s. The final point just before the whistle blew ending the first half, was scored again by Thornton. The score at the end of the first half was 0-08 to 0-04, with Gerald Griffin’s in the lead.
Paul Brouder got a point straight away in the second half. A minute later, John McCoy scored another point for us, followed soon after by a point from Thornton. 2 minutes in and Griffin’s were ahead by 7 points. Senan’s got a point from a free, followed by a point from Connor O’Shaughnessy. Patrick O’Shaughnessy soon went for a goal and narrowly missed, Thornton then scored another point. 2 more points for Gerald Griffin’s and our defenders did great work putting Senan’s under pressure leading them to missing a few points. The score was now 0-15 to 0-05. Both teams scored another point each, just before the whistle.
The final quarter of the game started with a wide from St. Senan’s and a minute later they scored a point. Senan’s missed another few points and scored another 2. Paudie O’Connell made a great block before passing on to Brouder who ran and got a free kick. Griffin’s got a point from a free and Pat O’Shaughnessy also went for a score but was blocked. In the last minute, Senan’s got another point leaving a final score of 0-17 to 0-11.
Griffin’s gave a great performance overall and it was great to see such a good win in their first game of 2021, especially as we were missing a few strong players. We hope to see our supporters out again next week, Tuesday June 15th at 7.30, as Gerald Griffin’s will be playing St. Kieran’s in Coolcappa.
The following are the fixtures for the coming weeks:
22nd June
Gerald Griffins v Kildimo/Pallaskenry @ 7.30
29th June
Newcastle West v Gerald Griffins @ 7.30
