Gardaí confirm road closures for Limerick v Clare hurling tie in TUS Gaelic Grounds:
PREPARATIONS for the Limerick v Clare senior hurling match at the Gaelic Grounds have begun, as motorists are advised of traffic management measures in the city ahead of the game.
Limerick City and County Council has implemented traffic management measures for the highly anticipated National Allianz Hurling League game between Limerick and Clare at TUS Gaelic Grounds, Ennis Road on Sunday, March 2. Throw-in is at 3.45pm.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and to follow the directions of gardaí and event stewards,” a spokesperson said.
“We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all.”
A crowd of 15,000 is expected to attend the game, which will cause traffic disruption in Limerick city and approach roads to the city.
Road Closures/diversions will apply from 2pm onwards at the following locations: Ennis Rd, at its junction with Ivan’s Cross – traffic will be diverted to Northern Ring Road and towards Clonmacken Road.
Salesian’s School/North Circular Road junction will be closed, as will Shelbourne Road/North Circular Road at Clanmaurice Avenue. At Union Cross, traffic will be diverted to Shelbourne Rd.
The following will road closures will also be in place: Shelbourne Pk./Shelbourne Road, Shelbourne Rd./Mayorstone Drive, Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Avenue, Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper, Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper and TUS Roundabout (Merval Pk.), Ennis Road/Derravarragh Road, Clonmackin Road at its junction with Aylesbury and Clonmackin Road at its junction with Knocklyon.
After the game, the Ennis Road will be closed between Union Cross and Ivans. All traffic exiting Jetland Shopping Centre will be directed to Clonmacken Roundabout.
All traffic travelling on Brookeville Avenue towards Ivans will be directed out Ennis Road to Coonagh Roundabout.
All traffic travelling inbound on Ennis Road towards Ivans will be directed onto Brookeville Avenue.
All traffic travelling inbound on Cratloe Road will be directed onto Sexton Street North or Kileely Road. No traffic permitted onto Shelbourne Road.
Gardaí are advising to arrive in plenty of time, not to park cars legally i.e causing obstruction, and don’t park on green areas or at locations where parking is prohibited.
Cars illegally parked will be ticketed and those causing obstruction are likely to be towed away by gardaí.
Patrons are advised to strongly consider parking in the nearby city centre car parks and walk out to the stadium as this will save them considerable time in their journeys home after the game.
“An Garda Síochána would like all patrons travelling to the game to have a safe trip so the here are a few tips for those travelling to the match,” a spokesperson continued.
“Don’t leave any valuables in your vehicle and if you must, keep them out of view. This should be done before you get to your destination.
“There are likely to be large crowds at the match so parents should exercise caution and be aware of their child’s whereabouts at all times.”
