GALTEE GAELS

Championship Win for Gaels in Kilmallock
Gaels secured their first championship win with a well fought victory over Ballysteen in Kilmallock on Sunday evening.
Played in warm sunny conditions, Hugh Moloney opened our account after one minute with a well taken point. We continued this trend with points from Bob Childs and Eoghan Mac. Conor and Tommy were on top on midfield and starting to cause Ballysteen issues in the middle third. Ballysteen did opened their account after six mins and both teams continued to exchange points. An excellent save from Danny McGrath was key a moment in the first half. The team were working very hard all over the pitch and pressure on the Ballysteen kickout resulted in a throw ball which led to a Zach McCarthy point. Ballysteen hit a purple patch however and hit two points to reduce the lead to one point to leave the half time score at Galtee Gaels 0-7 points to Ballysteen 0-6 points.
We started our second half in the best way possible with a point from Zach which was quickly followed by an Alan Condon goal after receiving another perfect pass from Tommy. Ballysteen replied in the best way possible by hitting three points in the next few minutes to reduce the gap. Eoghan Mac steadied the ship with a much need point but former Limerick senior footballer Danny Neville found the back of the Gaels net to bring Ballysteen back into the game once more. Once again, Gaels found another gear and hit 1-3 without reply including a screamer of a goal from Zach McCarthy after another excellent series of build-up play from Alan and Tommy.
Both teams exchanged points and Gael’s supporters and mentors endured a nervous few final minutes when Ballysteen hit three points without reply, however it was not enough and the game ended with a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-13 in favour of Gaels.
This was an excellent performance from Gaels with Tommy Childs, Zach McCarthy and Alan Condon having standout performances and it was great to see seven different players get on the scoreboard. We are now in 3rd position in the group with one lost and one win. The team now have a five-week break and will face St. Kieran’s in the next game.
