GALTEE GAELS
Heartbreak in Kilfinane.
Our senior side lost out to near neighbours Ballylanders last Saturday with an extra time goal breaking Gaels hearts.
Our account was opened with Zach McCarthy and Sean Casey points. Ballylanders slowly made their way into the game and a goal from Bally on the 13 minute opened their account when they were awarded a penalty which was converted. Gaels were down to 14 men when Hugh Moloney received a red card, we were now under pressure and only managed to score one point in the remaining time. Bally kicked on to lead at half time by 5 points.
To the team’s credit, Bob opened the second half in an improved performance from the team. We were much better on the ball and started to convert our chances. Bally were reduced to 14 men when Steven Fox received a second yellow. Gaels finally found the back of the net when Alan was fouled and we were rewarded with a penalty which was converted by Bob Childs. We finally went into the lead for a second time and had a dangerous two points led when disaster struck, and Bally found the back of the net to secure a one-point win. Final Score 2-8 to 1-10.
This was a heart-breaking loss for the team as a draw or a win would have secured progression to the knockout stages after other results went our way. Well done to the management and players for all of their efforts throughout the year. We look forward to this group playing again next year.
