Our intermediate footballers ran out comfortable 9 point winners in the end of an entertaining West Intermediate League Final versus Glin on Sunday evening in Newcastle West. Two early goals from the boot of Mark Ranahan gave us a healthy lead we would never relinquish. Glin hit back and narrowed the gap before Jamie Dolan and Mark Ranahan both hit two fantastic 2 pointers to suddenly put 9 points between the sides. Goalkeeper Dolan first stepped up to float over a beautiful 2 pointer free from the left sideline before Mark Ranahan hit the score of the game with an outside of the foot effort from outside the D to bring his tally to 2-02. With midfielders Jamie O’Sullivan and man of the match Alan McGrath giving an exhibition of high fielding we maintained a steady lead throughout the second half with Padraic Murphy, Sean Whelan, Niall Barry and Jamie Dolan all keeping the scoreboard ticking over. West Board treasurer Jim Enright presented the Tom Sparling Cup to captain Alan McGrath afterwards. We now advance to a County League Final versus Galbally. Well done to all involved. County Under 17 Football League Final:
ABK Desmonds 2-07 Claughaun 1-16
Our under 17 footballers went down to a strong Claughaun in Martinstown last Sunday morning in the County under 17 division 3 football league final. The damage was done in the first 20 minutes when the city side raced in to a ten point lead with some great attacking play. We could have found ourselves further behind but for some outstanding saves from our netminder Luca Zoncada. After a stern half time team talk our lads started the second half in determined fashion and a great goal from full forward Shane Ryan followed by 2 points from midfielder Brooklyn Delahunty and 1 from Darragh O O’Shaughnessy had the gap down to five points. To their credit Claughaun raised their game and responded with the all important goal to put the result beyond doubt and run out six point winners. Goalkeeper Luca Zoncada was our outstanding performer on the day and was ably assisted by good performances from Aaron Cregan, Cathal Daly, Cillian Murphy, Brooklyn Delahunty and second half substitutes Eoin McNamara and Rian Kelly. Team and scorers Luca Zoncada, Nathan Dalton, Tadgh Mulvihill, Ben Fitzgerald, Aaron Cregan, Sam Costello, Cathal Daly, Danny Murphy, Cillian Murphy, Brooklyn Delahunty 1-4 1f, Dessie Downes, Darragh O Shaughnessy 0-01, Jamie Sheahan, Lorcan Blackwell, Shane Ryan 1-02. Under 13 Football Championship:
ABK Desmonds 2-03 Monagea 1-06
Our under 13 football campaign came to an end on Thursday night despite a great effort by our lads. We needed a win to advance to a county semi final but unfortunately luck wasn’t on our side with the Monagea goalkeeper in inspired form saving 5 point blank shots to keep them in the game. Despite falling 1-03 to 0-00 behind after ten minutes we stormed back in to the game and pushed for a winner in injury time but unfortunately it ended all square meaning St Kierans advance from our group to the County Semi Final. Well done to all our lads who played some great football in what was a difficult group and came up just short for qualification. Team and scorers Darragh Moran, Jake Gallagher, Oisin O’Connor, Josh O’Donoghue, Kieran Condon, Dylan O’Connor, Paddy Nealon, Cian Somers, Michael O’Shaughnessy 0-01, Kayden Delahunty, Danny Anglim 2-02, Sean Greene, Niall Sheehy,

West Junior B Hurling League
Feohanagh 1-17 Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan 1-10
Our junior b hurlers went down by 7 points to a strong Feohanagh Junior B last Thursday night in Ballysteen. A flicked goal from full forward David Ryan at the start of the second half brought us within a point of our opponents but Feohanagh went on to dominate the latter stages to run out 7 point winners. We had some fine scores from play from Colm O’Connell, Conor McNamara, Tom Lyng and Conor Purcell aswell as a long range free from goalkeeper Cathal Guerin.
