County Senior Championship
Fr. Caseys 3-11 Galbally 1-02
Fr. Caseys opened the scoring but on 5 minutes the teams with level again at 0-01 each. The opening exchanges were extremely lively with both sets of defenders not giving an inch. Adrian Enright and Daniel Daly however found gaps and they converted to put Fr. Caseys back in front. Another point from play from Adrian Enright and a pointed free from Cormac Roche coupled with a Galbally point left the scoreline 0-05 to 0-02 as we headed for the first water break. The next 15 minutes belonged to the defenders with Fr. Caseys keeping their counterparts scoreless while at the other end Adrian Enright and a Cormac Roche free stretched the lead to 5 points at the half time whistle. This was a lead Fr. Caseys fully deserved for their hard work throughout the pitch. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-07, Galbally 0-02.
The start of the second half brought a wave of activity. Firstly Cormac Roche stuck a brilliant goal immediately after the restart but within two minutes Galbally had converted a penalty at the other end. A pointed free from Adrian Enright and two pointed frees from Cormac Roche were soon added to give Fr. Caseys a commanding 8 point cushion as we headed into the final quarter. With the finishing line in sight Fr. Caseys were not easing off the pedal and our defence continued to harass the Galbally forwards for every ball. At the other end our forwards had the Galbally defenders run ragged with Cormac Roche and Adrian Enright in particular picking off scores on demand. Galbally needed a lifeline and when they were awarded a penalty with just under 15 minutes remaining it looked like their ticket back into the game. Shane O’Connell had other ideas and pulled off a great save and then quickly adjusted himself to save the rebound much to the delight of the Fr. Caseys supporters. Having cleared their lines, Fr. Caseys immediately went on the attack with Cormac Roche rounding the defence to claim his second goal of the day and effectively end the contest. There would be no further Galbally scores inside the final 10 minutes with Fr. Caseys extending the margin further with another Adrian Enright point and a Robert Browne goal setup by John Riordan. There was no doubting the winners with Fr. Caseys marching to a 3-11 to 1-02 victory. The management and team can be very pleased with this display but with Newcastle West up next they will face a must tougher test. This game will decide who tops Group 4 with both teams now qualified for the county quarter finals. Well done to all involved and hopefully the positive results keep coming
Well Done Limerick
Fr. Caseys GAA Club would like to congratulate the Limerick Senior Hurling Team on their fantastic All-Ireland Final success last Sunday over Cork. This bunch of players have exceeded all expectations in recent years and we are extremely proud of their efforts. To capture three All-Irelands in four years would have been unthinkable until recently but John Kiely has primed this team to deliver on the biggest occasions and something tells us there is a lot more to come. Well done to all involved and may the good times continue for the green and white.
