County Junior A Championship
Fr. Caseys 3-09 Newcastle West 0-06
Fr. Caseys Junior A Footballers began their championship campaign last Sunday evening in Tournafulla taking on local rivals Newcastle West. An early Jack Breen point put Fr. Caseys into an early lead but Newcastle West soon levelled. A well taken point from Jack Breen help regained the lead and a brilliant save from Kevin Lane helped keep Newcastle West at bay. On 12 minutes wing back Adam Riordan burst through the defence and riffled the ball to the back of the net. This was soon followed by a converted sideline from Jack Breen and a point from Pa O’Connor to give Fr. Caseys a 6 point lead at the first water break. Fr. Caseys continued to extend their lead with points from Adam Riordan and Kieran Foley either side of a converted free from Jack Breen. Although Newcastle West got the last point of the half, Fr. Caseys were very content with their 1-07 to 0-02 half time lead.
A well taken goal from Pa O’Connor after the restart had Fr. Caseys leading by 11 points and although Newcastle West would add four points to the scoreboard before the final water break, Eoin O’Connell also kept Fr. Caseys in command with two converted frees. Ahead by 9 points with 10 minutes to go, Adam Riordan would complete a brilliant display with another goal to end the contest. There would be no more scores and Fr. Caseys would emerge with a 12 point victory on a final score of 3-09 to 0-06. This was a very complete performance from our juniors. After some mixed performances in the league they delivered on the big day and they will now play Hospital/Herbertstown in two weeks where they will aim to cement their quarter final spot and hopefully top their group. Well done to all involved
Best of Luck Limerick
Fr. Caseys GAA Club would like to wish the Limerick Senior Hurling Team the very best of luck this Sunday when they take on Cork in the All-Ireland Final. Throughout the year John Kielys men have given us great entertainment and hopefully on Sunday they have one more big performance in them to claim a third All-Ireland in four years.
Hard luck to our County Minor Footballers who pushed Cork all the way last Wednesday in the Munster Football Final. Leading by a point with just over ten minutes remaining it looked like Limerick were on the verge of a major upset but unfortunately Cork rallied near at the end to claim victory by 1-17 to 0-13. Well done to all involved especially Michael Kilbridge, Marc Nolan, Ronan Quirke, Cullan Quigley, Callum Boyle and Dylan O’Connor
