FR CASEYS GAA CLUB NOTES

Upcoming Fixtures
County U17 Championship
Fr. Caseys Vs Monaleen – Wednesday July 28th in Abbeyfeale at 7.00pm
County Senior League Semi-Final
Fr. Caseys 1-12 Monaleen 3-10
Having suffered defeat to Newcastle West in the West Final the previous week, Fr. Caseys had a chance for redemption last Tuesday night in Mick Neville Park when they face the City League winners Monaleen. Conceding an early goal was not the ideal start but a well taken point from Rory O’Brien which was soon followed by a converted 45 from Eliah Rirodan had the margin reduced to a single point inside the first 5 minutes. The teams then traded points with John Riordan on target for Fr. Caseys before Killian Sweeney levelled the scores heading to the first water break. Once more the teams traded scores, this time it was Dylan Quirke on the scoresheet for the Abbeyfeale men. Monaleen would finish the half stronger however outscoring Fr. Caseys by 1-02 to 0-02 in a ten minutes spell to lead by 2-04 to 0-07 at the break. Chris Smith from play and Eliah Riordan from a free claiming the Fr. Caseys scores.
There was little between the teams in the first half bar Monaleen proving more clinical in the final third. An early second half point from Rory O’Brien was cancelled out by Monaleen but an Adrian Enright point then reduced the margin to just two points. A brace of points from Monaleen gave them some daylight as they went for the final water break but Fr. Caseys were not going to lie down easily. Converted frees from Dylan and Eliah and another point from Rory left the bare minimum between the teams as we entered the final 10 minutes. Unfortunately Monaleen would kick the next 1-03 without reply, stretching the lead to seven points as the game went into injury time. Credit to Fr. Caseys they continued to battle and a late goal from Eoghan O’Connell reduced the margin to four points before the full time whistle. Unfortunately despite a brave display this would end our county league campaign. Next up for our Seniors is the county championship in approximately one month where Fr. Caseys are paired in Group 4 along with Newcastle West and Galbally with two to qualify.
Well Done Limerick
Last Wednesday evening in the Gaelic Grounds, the Limerick Minor Footballer emerged victorious over Tipperary by 2-09 to 1-09 to book their place in the Munster Semi-Final away to Clare this Friday July 30th. On the night Fr. Caseys had three starters with another three players introduced from the bench. It is great testament to our underage coaches to have so many club players involved at county level. We are really proud of all the players and wish them the best of luck this Friday. The players involved are Ronan Quirke, Michael Kilbridge, Marc Nolan, Cullan Quigley, Dylan O’Connor and Callum Boyle.
