County Championship this weekend

Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers kick off their county championship campaign this Friday night when they take on St. Senans in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale with an 8pm throw in. In what is a very competitive group which also contains county champions Adare, Ballylanders, Monaleen and Ballylanders it is vital to get a positive start to ensure the season is spent fighting for the knockout places and not looking for survival. With only a handful of county league games played it is still too early to gauge the form and potential of any team. There is no doubt that St. Senans bolstered by players like Ian Ryan and Adam Kerins will be up for the battle. A great game is expected and we would love to see a large crowd make the trip to cheer on the team

County Football League Division 1

Fr. Caseys 1-21 Na Piarsaigh 0-07

Last Saturday morning Fr. Caseys took on Na Piarsaigh in round 3 of the County Football League. With one win and one loss to date, Fr. Caseys were looking for a positive result before they head into championship mode over the next fortnight with vital games looming against St. Senans and county champions Adare. On a lovely day for football it was the Abbeyfeale men that shot out of the blocks kicking 7 points without reply in the opening 20 minutes which included a beautiful long-range point from Chris Smith and 3 pointed frees from Jamie O’Connor. It took Na Piarsaigh 22 minutes to open their account but they soon set about on their comeback and managed to reduce the margin to 4 points. Jamie O’Connor slotted over one more placed ball and the half time scoreboard had Fr. Caseys in a commanding 0-08 to 0-03 lead.

Fr. Caseys kicked two early second half points but Na Piarsaigh soon replied with their own brace of points. 10 minutes into the half Na Piarsaigh were dealt a hammer blow however when Cathal Broderick reacted quickest to a broken ball in the square and

palmed the ball to the back of the net. From this point onwards, Fr. Caseys went on a rampage with Billy Quirke giving a master show, wing back Daniel Daly kicked a beautiful long-range point and the new kid DJ Stack opening his senior account, no doubt the first of many to come. This game was well over before the final whistle with Fr. Caseys eventually finishing with a 17-point winning margin. Na Piarsaigh minus their county players looked a weakened outfit but Fr. Caseys did everything that was asked of them and look in good shape for round one of the county championship next Friday against St. Senans. The full-time score was Fr. Caseys 1-21, Na Piarsaigh 0-07.
