Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:
Upcoming Fixtures:
County Senior Championship
Fr. Caseys v Monaleen – Tuesday September 9th in Mick Neville Park at 7.30pm
County Junior A Championship:
Fr. Caseys 1-19 Ballybrown 0-08
Fr. Caseys Junior A Footballers made it three wins from three last Friday evening in Feenagh. A commanding second half display ended the contest against a Ballybrown side that have struggled this season. Next up is a potential top of the table clash with Athea on September 25th with revenge for last years knockout on the cards. Well done to Keith Harnett and Seamus Lenihan who have the team playing well but they will be more than aware that the business end of the season is only now approaching.
County Minor Semi-Final:
Fr. Caseys 2-07 Mungret 1-12
Fr. Caseys faced Mungret last Wednesday in the County Semi-Final, two teams that have been very familiar with each other in recent years. Despite being the reigning county champions, Fr. Caseys entered the game as underdogs after Mungret easily defeated them twice in the league campaign. Knockout football is a different animal however and Fr. Caseys started brightly to lead 1-01 to 0-02 after ten minutes, Evan O’Connor with the important goal. Mungret quickly gained dominance in this game however and by half time they had built up a 1-10 to 1-03 lead with Fr. Caseys having a mountain to climb. The half time team talk must have worked because we witnessed a renewed team in the second half as the Abbeyfeale men slowly began their comeback. A goal from Leon O’Connor midway through the half reduced the margin to just two points with his brother Evan scoring some vital points in advance. With time running out Fr. Caseys were denied a late winner with the Mungret keeper pulling off a fine save to deny a certain goal. It was heartbreak for this young team as their minor campaign now concludes. Many of this team are still active with our Junior A team and we wish them the best in that championship.
