Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:

Upcoming Fixtures:
County Minor Championship
Fr. Caseys v Mungret – Tuesday July 22nd in Abbeyfeale at 7.30pm
County Senior Championship:
Fr. Caseys 0-08 Adare 1-15
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers made the short trip to Newcastle West last Saturday to take on Adare in a repeat of the 2024 County Final. After a very positive league campaign where we won both west and county titles there were high hopes of another good championship season ahead. Losing five starters for this round one tie due to injury and holidays would be a major factor however as Adare took the lead midway through the first half and never looked back. Michael Kilbridge opened the scoring with a point but Adare were quick to reply. The sides again shared points with captain Daniel Daly slotting over for the Abbeyfeale men. 1-05 without reply from Adare dealt Fr. Caseys a major blow, Mikey Lyons raising the green flag on twenty two minutes. Daniel Daly did manage the final point of the half but it left us trailing by 1-07 to 0-03 and a lot of work to do.
A point from Rory O’Brien after the restart reduced the margin to six points but Adare seemed to find an extra gear and extended the margin as the half progressed. Two more second half points from Daniel Daly, one from a forty five and further points from Rory O’Brien and David Ward added some respectability to the scoreboard but when the final whistle went Adare had ten points to spare. On a wet evening in Newcastle West the absent players were greatly missed and the team now have one month to regroup before a round two encounter with Oola. The men in blue and white will have better days on the pitch. The final score was Fr. Caseys 0-08 Adare 1-15
County Junior A Championship:
Fr. Caseys 1-15 Mountcollins 1-11
Fr. Caseys Junior A Footballers opened their county championship campaign last Sunday evening with a local derby against Mountcollins in Tournafulla. In a tight first half we trailed by 1-05 to 0-07 at the break with both keepers pulling off vital saves. The score of the half was a two pointer from Jake Quirke mid-way through the half while Billy Quirke was a clinical as ever from frees
Into the second half and Fr. Caseys raised the green flag shortly after the restart when Conor Mullane drilled the ball into the top corner of the net. This was a lead they would not surrender and the margin was stretched to five points as we entered the final quarter. Mountcollins reduced the margin to three points and were also guilty of missing a goal scoring opportunity but in the final ten minutes Fr. Caseys showed great maturity to keep the ball with Robert Browne giving an exhibition in defence. The last kick of the game was a pointed free for Fr. Caseys as we held on for a four point winning margin. Next up is another tough encounter with Monagea at the end of August. The final score was Fr. Caseys 1-15 Mountcollins 1-11
