West Senior League Final:
Fr. Caseys 0-18 Adare 0-07
The 14 day of May and the sun was high in the sky. West League Finals don’t come around too often and 12 months prior we were on the losing end. But with high hope and new aspersions after a slow start to the league that quietly gained momentum we set out for the west league final in Ballyhahill. The pitch was in a great condition and the weather couldn’t have been better as referee Alan Kehoe threw in the ball. A repeat of last year’s County Final was to be the 2025 West Final. From the outset Caseys set out their stall and were on the front foot from the start but a few wasted opportunities and missed frees yielded nothing and but for a great save by Shane O’Connell Caseys would have been down more than the solitary point they were early in the game. When we finally hit our straps Eliah Riordan getting his first score in a man of the match display. Points quickly followed by Oisin Woulfe and Martin Scannell and Caseys took the lead for the first time 3 points to 2 and never relinquished it. In fact, in remain 10 minutes of the first half Casey’s outscored the Adare men 7 points to no score with precise kicking from Martin and Eliah with a 2 pointer and Sean Kilbridge gave a good cushion. The half time score 0-09 to 0-02.
When the second half began like true champions Adare fought hard and reduced the deficit to 3 points with 4 points on the trot. However cool heads were required and the elder statesmen of them took control David Ward winning a vital mark leading to a Martin Scannell point from a free seconds later. That score seemed to drain the county champions and give life to the men from the banks of the feale. Eliah put on an exhibition of shooting from the floor and play Martin tapped over his scores and Sean Kilbridge flew through the middle with a second and the freshly introduced Adam Fitzgerald caused problems with his pace and scored a fine point. In the end the men in blue and white ran out deserved winners and claimed the first West Senior Title since 2012. As Dan Daly received the cup from Johnny Walsh he acknowledged how great it was to win a West Title but also acknowledged it was a small battle in a bigger war that will be played out in the months to come. These 2 teams will meet in the first round of the county championship in what no doubt will be another enthralling battle between 2 teams who have developed a history over the last number of years. But for the West Final as Dan Daly said it’s “great to bring a cup home”

West Junior League Final:
Fr. Caseys 1-09 St. Kierans 1-12
After the success of the Senior side earlier in the week, hopes were high that our Junior A Footballers could deliver more silverware on Saturday evening when they faced St. Kierans in Newcastle West in the West Junior League Final. In a tight first half it was the Ardagh men that took a slight 0-07 to 0-06 advantage to the break. Failure to score in the third quarter ultimately cost our team as St. Kierans stretched their lead to eight points, Anthony Molineux with some fine scores. Fr. Caseys to their credit rallied hard in the closing stages and reduced the margin to three points, giving themselves a late lifeline with a goal. But St. Kierans held on to win by three, the final score 1-12 to 1-09.

Limerick GAA:
Well done to the Limerick Senior Footballers and Hurlers after two fantastic victories over the weekend. On Saturday our County Footballers upset the odds to record a comprehensive eleven point victory away to Antrim after a brilliant second half display. With one Tailteann League game remaining against Westmeath they are guaranteed a place in the knockout stages and will now look to top the group. Best of luck to all involved especially Mark McCarthy, Fiachra Cotter, Diarmuid Buckley and Rory O’Brien.
On Sunday the Limerick Hurlers gave another exhibition in the Gaelic Grounds, defeating the National League champions Cork with sixteen points to spare. That victory guarantees them a place in the Munster Final against either Cork or Tipperary on June 7th. Limerick have one league game remaining when they take Clare this Sunday at 4pm in the Gaelic Grounds
