Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:
Upcoming Fixtures
West Junior A Football League
Fr. Caseys Vs Athea – Wednesday March 12th in Abbeyfeale at 8pm
West Senior Football League:
Fr. Caseys 2-10 Adare 3-16
Friday night lights as the inch played host to a replay of the 2024 senior county final. Adare came to town with a strong side, many of which played the last time these teams met on the first Sunday of November. Casey’s on the other hand had a more mixed unit with many of last year’s minor team mixed with a few of the old guard. Casey’s got off to a flier as Evan O’Connor for the second week in a row got the first point on the board for the home side. Adare responded but then the ever green Billy Quirke scored 1-1 in no time a great goal after excellent work from Dan Daly in midfield and then a sweetly struck point off the outside of the right! Adare started to get a foot hold in the game and pressed higher up the pitch and the sides were level at 1-2 to 5 points mid-way through the first half. Then Adare took the lead which if it wasn’t for excellent defending from Danny McCarthy would have been a green flag instead of a white flag. The Abbeyfeale men finished the half stronger from then on scoring 1-2 to Adare’s 3 points. Ronan O’Connell and Martin Scannell with the points and on the stroke of half time Evan O’Connor raised a green flag. Both teams left points on the field in the first half but Casey’s led by 2 at half time 2-4 to 8 points.
Half time seemed to interrupt the Casey’s momentum and Adare roared into the game at the start of the second half and in the blink of an eye raced into a 6 point lead with 2-3 to our boys sole point. The senior men on the field for Casey’s then really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck for the next 10 minutes and David Ward, Martin Scannell with two and Billy Quirke got the boys in blue and white right back into it. In a tense last 10 minutes and with Casey’s pushing for an equaliser at one end they were caught on the counter by a quick break for a third Adare goal of the half and the night and it stopped the Casey’s fight back in its tracks. It demoralised a young team who had got even younger with the introduction of fresh legs from the bench. Adare kicked a couple more points including a 2 pointer to put a bit of gloss on to a score board that was a far closer game then it suggested. Adare running out victors 3-16 to 2-10 in the end. All in all a much improved performance from last week and the building blocks are in place for the management to work on after the first two rounds.
