Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:

County U20 Final:
Fr. Caseys 0-06 Mungret 2-11
Fr. Caseys Under 20 Footballers travelled to Sean Finn Park Rathkeale last Sunday looking to capturing the County Title against a Mungret side who had beaten them after extra time just twelve months ago. Following on from our County Minor success and also reaching the County Senior Final there was hope that this could be a fitting end to a positive season for the club.
An Oisin Woulfe point gave Fr. Caseys an early lead but Mungret then kicked four points without reply. Adam Murphy raised the white flag on ten minutes to keep Fr. Caseys in contention but Mungret replied with two points of their own. On fifteen minutes Mungret were awarded a penalty which they dispatched to the net and the margin was now seven points. Culann Quigley then kicked a brace of points before the half time interval to reduce the margin and leave the score at 1-06 to 0-04 at the break. Despite competing in all areas there were far too many wides from Fr. Caseys and they would need a lot more in attack for the second period.
Mungret kicked the opening score of the second half before captain Michael Kilbridge marched forward to also raise the white flag. The sides again traded points, this time Culann Quigley on the scoreboard. Having failed to make any impact on the Mungret lead this game slowly slipped away from the Abbeyfeale men in the final quarter. Mungret would add another three points and then a late goal to the scoreboard to win by a sizeable margin. The full time score was Mungret 2-11, Fr. Caseys 0-06.
On a day when a lot went wrong and the shooting boots were left at home it was a disappointing end to a good year. Many thanks to our young management team of Shane O’Connell, Sean Kilbridge, Eoghan O’Connell, Adam Fitzgerald and Sam Quigley for their efforts with this team. We wish all the players an enjoyable Christmas break and thank them for their efforts all year.
