Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:
Upcoming Fixtures:
Senior County Final
Fr. Caseys v Adare – Sunday November 3rd in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale at 3.30pm.
County Final Awaits:
All roads lead to Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale this Sunday as Fr. Caseys Footballers bid to bring the County Senior Title home to Abbeyfeale for the first time since 2006. While there has been much heartache at Senior level over the last eighteen years, a final defeat in 2009 to Drom/Broadford and numerous quarter and semi-final defeats, the club has prospered at other grades with eleven Minor, six U21 and two Junior County titles arriving in the meantime. Having narrowly lost to Adare twelve months previous after extra time in the semi-final stages, our Seniors regrouped over the winter and enlisted the help of County U20 manager Shane Kelly to coach the side. At a local level Eoin Joy stepped up as manager and despite losing the West League to local rivals Newcastle West in May they returned the favour less than a month later to topple the county champions in the County League Final. Our championship campaign began on June 28th with a three point defeat to Newcastle West but from that point forward there was an outstanding response with four straight group stages victories, all with winning margins of ten points or more. Once more the team were on song for the quarter final, dispatching Na Piarsaigh with twelve points to spare to set up a mouth-watering semi-final encounter with new promoted Mungret who had topped the other group. Facing a gale force breeze in the first half, Fr. Caseys kept in contention before putting their noses in front early in the second half. While they never enjoyed a safe margin, they did enough to hold on with the large travelling support delighted to see Fr. Caseys back where they belonged.
Next Sunday they face an Adare side that will wear the favourites tag. Adare have tasted victory in 2017, 2018 and 2020 and also contested the last three finals losing to Newcastle West on each occasion. Fr. Caseys have just one member of the current team who has a County Senior Championship medal in his pocket. Martin Scannell was just seventeen in 2006 and weeks later added a Minor title to his collection. In David Ward, Donagh Kelly and John Riordan they have further experience in their ranks but there is also plenty of youth in this side who have a collection of Minor and U21 medals won and they will relish the challenge next Sunday. Team captain Daniel Daly gave a man of the match display in the semi-final and along with county star Adrian Enright they will be the driving forces on this team. Fr. Caseys may enter as underdogs but if this team can deliver to their capabilities then victory next Sunday is well within their grasp. A classic encounter is expected and we hope a large crowd will be present to cheer on the boys in blue. Best of luck to all involved and hopefully Abbeyfeale will be rocking come Sunday evening. The throw in time in Mick Neville is 3.30pm with entry tickets available online at a discounted price in advance but also available at the gate on the day.
