Senior County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 3-14 Ballysteen 0-07
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers made it two wins from three games with a very commanding 3-14 to 0-07 victory over Ballysteen last Friday evening in Newcastle West. Fr. Caseys did all the damage in the first half with three well taken goals from Mark McCarthy, Rory O’Brien and Eliah Riordan. At half time the Abbeyfeale men held a 3-05 to 0-4 lead and they continued that dominance after the break kicking the first four points without reply. The game was well over before the final whistle with Fr. Caseys having sixteen points to spare in the end. In total we have nine different scorers on the night with 1-3 coming from Eliah Riordan and 0-04 from Adrian Enright. The defence must also be mentioned, keeping Ballysteen scoreless for twenty minutes after the interval. Next up is a meeting with Kildimo / Pallaskenry this Thursday night. A tougher encounter is expected but victory will almost guarantee a knockout place so there should be no lack of motivation
Junior A County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 0-13 Mountcollins 1-10
Fr. Caseys Junior Footballers shared the spoils last Sunday evening with neighbours Mountcollins in a highly entertaining third round championship clash in Tournafulla. Fr. Caseys were the more dominant side in the opening quarter and raced into a 0-04 to 0-01 lead. Kevin O’Connor and Ronan Quirke were busy in the inside line while Morgan Scannell was giving an exhibition of fielding in midfield. In the defence Calum Boyle gave his all, linking the ball from defence into attack. Slowly Mountcollins gained a grip in the game and a goal on twenty minutes swung momentum in their favour. At half team Fr. Caseys trailed by three points but would have the aid of the breeze in the second half.
On the restart both sides started to trade scores and the three point deficit remained until the final ten minutes. As the clock ticked down Fr. Caseys finished the game strongly and kicked the last three scores without reply to level the game deep into stoppage time. Ronan Quirke holding his nerve to slot over a thirty year free at the end. In an energy sapping game a draw seemed a fair result on the night and these teams could likely meet again in the knockout stages. With three points from three games victory over Ballybrown this Saturday is now vital.
