Minor County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 1-07 Monaleen 1-07
Following their opening round victory over Cappagh / Rathkeale, our minors were looking to continue winning ways last Wednesday evening in Abbeyfeale but faced a strong Monaleen side also boasting a winning start to the competition. There was very little to separate both teams in the first half, Fr. Caseys leading 0-02 to 0-01 after the opening quarter while Monaleen regained the lead by half time to hold a slender 0-04 to 0-03 advantage. A well struck long range free from Matthew O’Connor was the pick of the scores in a game where both defences were coming out on top.
An early second half point from Liam O’Connor levelled the game and then up stepped Adam Murphy to rattle a fine goal to send Fr. Caseys back into the lead. That advantage did not last long however and within three minutes Monaleen struck for goal at the opposite end to level the game. Two points from Evan O’Connor with Monaleen scoring one in return had the Abbeyfeale men in front with fifteen minutes remaining. The final quarter was a tense affair with both defences giving little away. Monaleen scored two points without reply to nudge in front with five minutes remaining but Evan O’Connor was on target once more, this time from a free to level the scores at 1-07 each. There would be no more scores and a draw was a fair result on the night
Minor County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 2-13 Kildimo / Pallaskenry 4-07
After drawing with Monaleen in mid-week, Fr. Caseys made the trip to Pallaskenry last Saturday evening for round three of the county championship. To date the minor championship has been a very competitive affair with a number of drawn games and no team having more than a three point winning margin. Last Saturdays encounter was no different and despite registering 2-13 on the scoreboard our Minors were guilty of conceding four goals on the night. In the end they were content to once more share the spoils and maintain their unbeaten record, with four points from a possible six and upcoming games with Mungret and Oola pending. A kick of a ball could decide if we top the group or fail to qualify such is the close nature of this group. We wish all involved the best of luck in the remaining games
