Senior County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 1-16 Oola 0-09
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers travelled to Clarina last Friday evening looking to claim their first championship points after a narrow defeat to Newcastle West in round one. Oola were also looking for their first win after a narrow defeat to Galtee Gaels on day one. The first half was an extremely tight affair with both defences standing firm. Fr. Caseys entered the half time break with a slender one point lead, 0-05 to 0-04.
There was also little to separate the sides in the early stages of the second half but the final quarter saw Fr. Caseys raise a gear their opponents could not handle. The introduction of Adam Fitzgerald was a major factor as he contributed 1-03 in the twenty minutes he was on the field. On the night Adrian Enright also gave a commanding display with Fr. Caseys running out victors with ten points to spare in the end. The final scoreline of 1-16 to 0-09 did Oola no justice. They battled gamely for most of the game but may have relied too heavily on Josh Ryans converted frees while Fr. Caseys had an array of scorers on the night. There will now be a six week wait for round three where Fr. Caseys will resume with a game against Ballysteen. The campaign is definitely back on track and they will be keen to repeat the free scoring of the final quarter while maintaining a tight defence.

Junior A County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 2-09 Monagea 1-09
Fr. Caseys Junior A Footballers made the short trip to Tournafulla last Saturday to face Monagea in round two of the county championship. Having suffered defeat to Croom the previous week there would be little margin for error while Monagea entered the game on the back of an eight point victory over Cappamore. Bolstered with a stronger squad on this occasion, the return of some experience in Kevin O’Connor and Padraig McEnery mixed with the many young players progressing from Minor, Fr. Caseys produced a hard fought 2-09 to 1-09 victory. In a competitive group this victory keeps alive qualification hopes. As with the Seniors there will a six week gap until the next competitive game.

Minor County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 0-12 Cappagh / Rathkeale 0-11
Fr. Caseys Minor Footballers started their county championship campaign with a hard fought one point victory last Wednesday evening over familiar opponents Cappagh / Rathkeale in Abbeyfeale. Our Minors lead by 0-03 to 0-01 after the opening quarter with points coming from Adam Murphy and two pointed frees from Ryan Sweeney. Points from Ronan O’Connell and Adam Murphy soon followed but Cappagh were also converting at the other end. The final point of the half went to Leon Curtin giving the Abbeyfeale men a deserved two point cushion, 0-06 to 0-04.
Despite early second half points from Adam Murphy and Ryan Murphy, Cappagh were also on target with four points of their own to level the scores with twenty minutes remaining. Despite looking the more commanding side, Fr. Caseys were coughing up too many frees in scorable areas keeping this contest on a knife edge. Points from Aaron Kelly and Adam Muphy gave Fr. Caseys some breathing space but Cappagh kicked two points without reply to level proceedings once more. In the final ten minutes Ryan Sweeney converted two vital free kicks, Cappagh returned with one point of their own but when the final whistle went Fr. Caseys had escaped with a narrow victory. Despite some very positive spells, the final result was too close for comfort. The free count will have to reduce but for day one it was a positive result and there is no doubt this talented team will improve in the coming weeks. The final score was Fr. Caseys 0-12, Cappagh / Rathkeale 0-11.
