County Championship Begins:
The County Senior and Junior A Football Championships kick off this weekend with Fr. Caseys facing two stern tests at the very start. Our Senior Footballers will enter the championship in confident mood after recently claiming the County League Title but a meeting with against the 2023 county champions Newcastle West will be fair from easy. The sides have played twice in the past month, Newcastle West claiming the West League Title after a penalty shootout while Fr. Caseys then claimed revenue in the County League Final. This will be the fourth meeting of the teams this year so there will be an element of familiarity although due to injuries, vacations, county and other sporting commitments this might be the first occasion both sides field full strength panels. Managed this year by Eoin Joy and Shane Kelly, the fealesiders will be looking to set down an early marker and it would come no bigger than a victory over their nearest rival. A nail biting encounter is promised and we expect a large crowd in Tournafulla to cheer on the team on Friday evening.
On Saturday evening our Junior A Footballers travel to the Bog Garden to face Croom in the opening round of the Junior A Premier campaign. After relegation from Intermediate level last year, Fr. Caseys will be looking for an instant reply but in Croom they face an experience team who are never far from the knockout stages in this competition. The preparation for our Junior team has been mixed with some players gaining valuable game time during the Senior league campaign while for others they will be grouping for the first time. The team is managed this year by John Boyle and Joseph Flaherty. We wish both teams the very best of luck this weekend and throughout their respective campaigns.
