Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:
Upcoming Fixtures:
County Minor Football Championship
Fr. Caseys Vs Cappagh / Rathkeale, Wednesday September 20th in Abbeyfeale at 6.30pm
County Senior Football Championship
Fr. Caseys 1-10 Kildimo/ Pallaskenry 0-10.
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers travelled to Newcastle West last Saturday evening to play Kildimo/ Pallaskenry in their final group game. Both clubs had qualified for the knockout stages in advance and with Newcastle West topping the group this game was now a battle for second and third place and hopefully a more favourable quarter-final. Fr. Caseys made the perfect start with a goal inside the opening minutes, Rory O’Brien getting the return ball from David Ward and rattling the net. The teams then exchanged points before Fr. Caseys added three more to the scoreboard to stretch the lead to six points after the first quarter. Three point without reply from Kildimo reduced the margin to three before Fr. Caseys registered another white flag. The team then exchanged a series of points until the half time break to leave the Abbeyfeale men four in front at the interval, 1-08 to 0-07.
Kildimo/ Pallaskenry captured the first point of the second half but Fr. Caseys soon restored their four-point cushion. Scores in the second period were much harder to get with both defences now on top. Each time Kildimo reduced the deficit, Fr. Caseys had an answer and the margin never went below three points. With less than 10 minutes remaining Kildimo did hit the net but the goal was correctly disallowed. A late Peter Nash free was the only Kildimo score in the final quarter, a credit to our hard working defence for standing firm in a low scoring game. This was a hard fought victory but truly deserved as Fr. Caseys now march onto the county quarter finals to face Na Piarsaigh. In the other side Kildimo/ Pallaskenry will face Monaleen with Newcastle West and Adare through to the semi-final stages.
All Ireland Masters Champions:
Well done to the Limerick Masters Football team especially Seamus Lenihan & Maurice O’Connor who captured the All Ireland Spirit Cup last Saturday after a hard fought extra time win over Armagh in Roscommon.
