Fr Casey’s GAA Club Notes:
Upcoming Fixtures:
West Intermediate League Final
Fr. Caseys vs Cappagh – Monday June 12th in Ballyhahill at 7.30pm
West Senior League Semi-Final
Fr. Caseys 0-08 St. Kierans 1-09
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers travelled to Athea last Wednesday evening with the hope of reaching a West League Final but standing in their way was an experienced St. Kierans outfit. When both teams met in the group stages Fr. Caseys emerged with eight points to spare, a similar outcome in Athea would have been most welcome. From the throw in it was clear however that St. Kierans had learnt from their mistakes and would not ship six goals on this occasion. The Abbeyfeale men kicked the opening point of the night but St. Kierans on seven minutes opened their account with a goal. For the remaining of the half the teams would trade scores to leave the score at 1-04 to 0-05 at the interval.
Try as they might in the second half Fr. Caseys never managed to reduced the deficit below two points as St. Kierans had a reply to every score and by the 55th minute the lead had been extended to five points. The final minutes seen Fr. Caseys throw everything into attack but only one more point would be added to the scoreboard as St. Kieran stood firm to win by 1-09 to 0-08. The old saying is goals win games and that was very true on this occasion. St. Kierans made the most of their chances while Fr. Caseys will know they can improve and now have five weeks to be ready for championship
Limerick GAA:
The Limerick Senior Footballers travelled to Portlaoise last Sunday for their final group game in the Tailteann Cup against Wicklow. With Limerick guaranteed top spot there was nothing to play for but pride. Wicklow led 1-06 to 0-05 at half time and increased that lead in the second half to claim a 2-14 to 1-10 victory over the shannonsiders. Limericks next game will be home tie on June 17/18 in the Tailteann Cup quarter final with their opponents to be decided after next weekends preliminary games. Best of luck to Adrian Enright, Fiachra Cotter and Eoin Joy in the coming weeks.
Best of luck to the Limerick Hurlers who face Clare this Sunday in the Munster Final in the Gaelic Grounds at 1.45pm. Limerick will be aiming for a fifth Munster title in a row and gain revenge on Clare for an earlier group stage defeat. It promises to be a classic encounter with Clare bidding to capturing their first Munster crown since 1998.
Best of luck also to the Limerick Masters Football team especially Seamus Lenihan and Maurice O’Connor as they face Laois this Saturday at 2pm in Kilteely in round 3 of the All-Ireland Series. To date they have one win from two games recorded and will be anxious to get back to winning ways on home soil.
