Upcoming Fixtures

West Junior A Football Championship

Fr. Caseys Vs Newcastle West – Thursday June 13th in Tournafulla at 7.30pm

County Football League Division 3

Fr. Caseys 1-06 Athea 2-22

Having ran intermediate side Mungret so close the previous week, Fr. Caseys Junior Footballers had another big task last Saturday evening when they faced neighbours Athea in Abbeyfeale. Minus some regular starters, Fr. Caseys lined out with a very youthful team with Seamus Lenihan, Tom Cahill, Maurice O’Connor and Joe Weir thrown in for experience. In an entertaining first half Athea were clinical with their chances including an early goal while at the other end Fr. Caseys lost their battles too often in the final third. A well struck penalty kick from Tommy Smith just before half time reduced the margin to 8 points at the break but Fr. Caseys still had a mountain to climb.

Athea hit the ground running from the start of the second half to extend the margin further. Fr. Caseys were finding the superior fittest of their opponents hard to deal with and when Athea offloaded their bench this only added to the woes. Fr. Caseys never threw in the towel and Joe Weir continued to add to the scoreboard from placed balls but when Athea struck for their second goal midway through the half there was no way back for the Abbeyfeale men. It is obvious that the panel needs to be at full strength to compete but we will still take some positives in the performances of the new kids on the block in particular Jamie and Dylan Quirke who worked tirelessly throughout.
