Fr. Caseys Vs Athea – Saturday April 2nd in Athea at 5.30pm
Intermediate West League
Fr. Caseys 3-14 Glin 3-08
Fr. Caseys Junior Footballers started their 2022 west league campaign last Saturday at home against Glin. On a beautiful sunny day in Abbeyfeale it was Eoghan O’Connell who opened the scoring with a point. Glin then found their groove and kicked 1-04 without reply, their goal coming from the penalty spot. On 17 minutes Jack Quinlivan added a point for the home side but Glin soon restored their six point cushion. Next to score for Fr. Caseys was Ethan Sweeney with the ball bouncing over the crossbar after Eoghan O’Connell had kept the keeper busy. A Glin point on 28 minutes was their final score of the half but there was still time for Eoghan O’Connell to add to his tally. First he raised the white flag following a well worked kick-off from Kevin Lane and moments later he was in to strike goal after great setup work from Marc Nolan. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 1-04, Glin 1-06.
Fr. Caseys needed to start the second half brightly and that is exactly what happened with five unanswered points to take the lead. The scores coming from Martin Coughlan, Marc Nolan, Killian Sweeney and a brace of points from Eoghan O’Connell. Against the momentum Glin struck for their second goal of the game to level the scores. Another Eoghan O’Connell point put Fr. Caseys back in front before great work by Cathal Harnett then lead to Cathal Broderick rattling the net. Minute later Oisin Woulfe had another green flag raised with Cathal Harnett the provider once more. Two points from Glin reduced the margin but four Fr. Caseys points without reply from Martin Coughlan, Oisin Woulfe and a brace of points from Killian Sweeney put the game to bed. Nearing the end Glin struck their third goal of the evening but it was too little too late as Fr. Caseys held on the claim a deserved six point victory after a very impressive second half display. The second half score was Fr. Caseys 3-14, Glin 3-08.
Well Done Limerick
Massive congratulations to the Limerick Senior Footballers especially our own Adrian Enright who gained promotion to Division 2 for next season when they defeated Fermanagh by 1-16 to 0-14 last Sunday in the Gaelic Grounds to conclude their league campaign with five wins from seven and take one of the two coveted promotion places. Next Saturday at 4.45pm Limerick will face fellow promoted Louth in Croke Park for the Division 2 Title Decider. This game will be televised live on TG4. We wish all involved the very best of luck once more and hopefully this great form continues into championship.
Con & Annie Kirby Stakes
The annual Con & Annie Kirby Memorial Stakes kicked off last Saturday night in the Limerick Greyhound Stadium. Sponsored by the McManus family this greyhound stakes offers each GAA Club in Limerick the chance to win €10,000 in prize money if there nominated dog claims the coveted title. This year Fr. Caseys were paired with Epic Boy who prior to the race had to be replaced by Silent Guest. Running from Trap 2 in Heat 4 unfortunately our nominated dog failed to finish in the top 3 to claim qualification into next weekend’s round 2. The Stakes will continue each Saturday night over the coming weeks and a trip to the Greyhound Stadium to join in the fun is highly recommended.
