Upcoming Fixtures
U21 County Championship
Fr. Caseys Vs Monaleen – Sunday December 11th in Mick Neville at 12 noon
U21 County Championship
Fr. Caseys 1-12 Newcastle West 3-06
Fr. Caseys Under 21 Footballers kicked off their championship campaign last Wednesday evening in Mountcollins. The team is managed this year by Daniel Daniel and Killian Sweeney with Sean Kilbridge as captain. Having won the county crown last year after a ten year absence, the team will be eager to retain the title but will face many tough challenges in this campaign. The first of those tough encounters was against a Newcastle West side rocking in confidence from their senior teams impressive run to the Munster Club Final. On a perfect night for football, Fr. Caseys had the best of the early exchanges and took an impressive seven point lead into the break. The game was played at a very high tempo and both sides were treating the large crowd in attendance to some quality football. While Fr. Caseys continue to weave opportunities in the second half through their opponents defence, the Newcastle attack became more dangerous as the game progressed, isolating their key forwards and steering home two vital goals in the final quarter that gave them a lifeline in a game where Fr. Caseys would have felt dominant. Both teams battled and exchange scores right until the end but when the final whistle went the spoils were shared. Many in attendance felt it was a victory lost as Fr. Caseys had lead the game for a long period only to fall to two late goals. In hindsight this will be one of the strongest opponents they will face and our team gave a very positive account on their first showing of the year. Hopefully the team can continue this form against Adare and Monaleen in the group stages and capture a vital semi-final spot. The final score was Fr. Caseys 1-12, Newcatsle West 3-06
U21 County Championship
Fr. Caseys 2-11 Adare 1-06
On Sunday morning Fr. Caseys travelled to the Bog Garden, Rathkeale to face Adare in a must win group stage encounter. Fr. Caseys had drawn their opening game while Adare had suffered an eight point defeat at the hands of Monaleen. As with their round one encounter, Fr. Caseys raced into an early lead and were the most dominant team for large portions of the first half. Leading 2-08 to 0-05 with fifteen minutes remaining, the management had the luxury to utilise their strong bench. Although Adare struck a goal in the final quarter they were never given the opportunity to stage a comeback and four more Fr. Caseys points would give the Abbeyfeale men a very comfortable eight point cushion as the full time whistle went. This win gives the team three points from a maximum of four and means that if they avoid defeat against Monaleen in their final game they will have qualified for the semi-final stages. The final score was Fr. Caseys 2-11, Adare 1-06
