FR CASEYS GAA

Senior County Semi- Final
Fr. Caseys 0-08 Adare 1-10
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers travelled to Feenagh last Sunday knowing that 60 minutes of football separated them from a place in the county final for the first time since 2009. Standing in their way was a seasoned Adare side who were undefeated in the group stages and would pose the biggest challenge of the year. The opening 10 minutes was the stuff of dreams, corner back Mark McCarthy marching forward to kick the opening point and that was soon followed by two more points from play from Morgan Scannell and Adrian Enright. Fr. Caseys were causing the Adare defence major headaches, running at speed at their opponents and always looking to have positive outlets. Unfortunately Adare corrected their defensive frailties quickly adopting a sweeper and basketball style press which knocked the free flowing Fr. Caseys attack on its head. Adare slowly began to peg back the deficit, three points without reply levelling the scores with just over twenty minutes played. Adare would kick another three points before Adrian Enright managed to kick Fr. Caseys fourth point deep in stoppage time. A large majority of Adare points coming from frees as their lively full forward line ran with menace at the defence. Fr. Caseys were guilty of poor shooting and decisions in the final third. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-04, Adare 0-06
Fr. Caseys made a lively start to the second half and a pointed free from Martin Scannell had the bare minimum between the teams. There were chances to level proceedings, even some great goal chances in the third quarter but time after time we were not clinical when the opportunities were presented. Three unanswered points from Adare at the other end stretched their lead to four points. Fr. Caseys seemed to dominate the mid-section of the second half with Adare now dropping deep to protect their advantage but with only one point registered on the scoreboard time was running out. With ten minutes to go Adare delivered a sucker punch when they breached our defence and rattled the net. The teams went on to exchange points with substitute Eoghan O’Connell pointing for Fr. Caseys but we were now into territory where goals where needed. As we entered stoppage time the margin was reduced to five points but despite a gallant effort the required goals never came and Adare would hold on to win. The final score did little justice to a Fr. Caseys team that battle gamely throughout and had they brought their scoring boots the scoreline could have been different. 16 wides vs 4 for their opponents told the true tale, a day in which we were not clinical enough and were punished. Well done to all the players for their efforts all year and no doubt they will be back to get their reward in the near future. The full time score was Fr. Caseys 0-08, Adare 1-10
Minor County Semi- Final
Fr. Caseys 0-17 Kildimo/Pallaskenry 1-10
Fr. Caseys Minor Footballers took on Kildimo/Pallaskenry last Saturday morning with a place in the county final up for grabs. Despite a testing first half where we trailed by 0-08 to 0-05 at the break, Fr. Caseys emerged in the second half with great determination. A goal from Kildimo failed to break the momentum of the Abbeyfeale men who kicked an amazing 12 points in the second half. All players including those introduced gave their all against a gallant Kildimo side. In the end Fr. Caseys held on for a memorable four point victory that now places them in a county final against Monaleen in the coming weeks. While we will be aiming for a fifth county minor title in a row it must be noted this is a very young side with many underage again next year. So far this year they have exceeded expectation and will need one more major performance to stop a very strong Monaleen side. We wish all involved the best of luck in the coming weeks in their preparation
