FEOHANAGH/CASTLEMAHON GAA CLUB NOTES
Club Registration
It’s that time again to get registration and membership completed for all our existing and new members, last years membership night was a tremendous success with the registration of 170 youth members and 270 adult members who all availed of the various membership packages we introduced for the first time.
2020 was an extremely difficult year for everyone but the club enjoyed great success at all levels with the highlight being Seamus Flanagan bringing home to his club and parish his second All-Ireland medal in 3 years.
Off the field of play unbelievable progress has been made mainly by the hard working fields committee who have carried out a number of projects to help improve our facilities, reclaiming of the land behind the bottom goals, installing a new footpath to the stand, install new perimeter railing around the pitch, replacing the chutes and downpipes on the complex building and installing new drainage pipes and the installation of a wheelchair accessible toilet at the rear of the complex and upgrading the floodlighting to the pitch and general electrics within the complex.
Jan 2021 saw the start of construction of our ball wall and astro turf facility which is due to be completed by the end of April, this project could not have progressed without the generous support of our members and the help of the ladies football club whose Split the Pot weekly fundraiser is contributing towards the completion of the state of the art facility which we can all be very proud of.
With the completion of the boundary wall in the next few weeks at the back of the viewing area up to the Stand for the safety of everyone and giving extra protection from the elements, the proposed erection of a shop/kiosk inside the pedestrian gate and the planned erection of driver awareness speed signs on both sides of Coolyroe and install fixed bollards along the verge of the car park parallel with the road, will make Coolyroe a safer place for everyone especially our younger members.
With the need for everyone within our community to keep fit, healthy and active we have applied for planning permission and a Sports Capital grant to install a fully flood lit walkway around the perimeter of Coolyroe which will be of benefit to everybody within our community ,young and old to avail of.
We need the help and support of everyone in our club and beyond to keep the club vibrant and progressive and your continued support through our membership packages, lotto ,Club Limerick Draw and the Ladies Football Split the Pot is now needed more than ever and is greatly appreciated, which will help us to continue with the further development of our facilities and the day to day running of the club.
A registration/membership day may not be possible this year due to Covid restrictions so we will make the membership packages available and these can be paid on line through Standing Order or bank transfer or by contacting any of the Club officers below for further information.

Jim Quaid RIP
Last Thursday evening 25th March the sad news filtered throughout the Parish and County of the sad passing of Jim Quaid Ahawilk, Feohanagh. The Lord certainly works in mysterious ways as Jim was predeceased by his twin brother Jack just 4 weeks ago. Jim’s career both in work and in sport worked hand in hand with his brother Jack. Jim worked in the building trade and he travelled long distances to matches on a motorbike. His hurling career blossomed when the late Fr Culhane arrived in Feohanagh and formed a hurling club. Both Jack and Jim played minor hurling with Adare. But it was with Feohanagh/Castlemahon that Jim came to fame. In 1954 he played at midfield and he inspired Feohanagh/Castlemahon to win the County Junior Hurling title defeating Kilmallock in the final. Jim scored 3 goals in the final. He played Senior with Feohanagh/Castlemahon and won the county cup in 1964 and 1965. He played with Limerick and with Jack they won an All Ireland Junior title in 1954. He played Senior with Limerick and in 1955 they won a Munster title with “Mackeys Greyhounds”. He played with Western Gaels and they lost the County final in 1954. Jim was fearless on the field of play, he saw no danger and in the words of an old Feohanagh/Castlemahon supporter “Jim Quaid finished every game like he was coming from a WAR” . Once he retired on the playing field he took up refereeing and also served on the County and Divisional Bords. He was one of the sellers for the Mackey draw in the club. His sons Joe and Ger donned the Limerick jersey and Joe won 2 All Stars Awards. Jim will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Feohanagh/Castlemahon GAA club would like to extend their sympathy to his family. Jim is predeceased by his wife Kathleen, daughter Theresa, and is survived by his sons Tom, James, Ger and Joe. May the green sod of Auglish rest lightly on his soul. RIP Jim Quaid.
Thank You
Feohanagh/Castlemahon GAA Club would like to sincerely thank Councillor Tom Ruddle for his generous payment of €1000 from the GMA Fund which will be put towards the Ball Wall and Astro turf at Quaid Park. The club really appreciates your support.
