DROMCOLLOGHER/BROADFORD GAA CLUB NOTES

Under 21 B County Champions!!!!

Result:

U21 County B Football Championship Final

Dathi Brudairs 3-04

Ballylanders 0-11

Ballylanders started well and got the first score of the game after 2 minutes. After Luke Ryan shot wide the referee called back for a foul which Colm Ryan slotted over the bar to get us on the scoreboard. For the next 5 minutes we put a lot of pressure on the Ballylanders defence but we didn’t increase our tally on the scoreboard. Due to great work by our forwards the next score was bizarre one of the Ballylanders players played the ball back towards his own goal and it rolled into the bottom left hand corner to leave the score at 1-1 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. On the 17th minute after great work by our forwards they turned over the opposition defence and Brian Ahern was unlucky just putting the ball outside the right-hand post. This was a wake-up call for Ballylanders who responded well and scored the next 4 points to leave the score at 1-1 to 0-5 after 28 minutes. Owing to Timmy Brosnan in goals the score could have been a lot different making two great saves from the opposition full forward. Before half time both teams traded scores with Colm Ryan getting ours thanks to a great pass by Jack Pierce. At half time the score read 1-2 to 0-6 we were lucky only to be a point down as Ballylanders has a lot of possession in the first half.

We started slowly to the second half and conceded 2 more points. We finally got on the score board on the 37th minute with Colm Ryan slotting over a free after Brian Ahern was fouled. Brian then kicked a beautiful score from the left. Ballylanders tipped over the next score as the score board read 1-4 to 0-10. Ballylanders were well on top now until Brian Ahern broke through the opposition defence and was fouled in the square and the referee awarded a penalty which Colm Ryan placed to the corner of the net. From the resulting kick out Brian Ahern won it and played a ball to Jack Pierce who returned it and Brian dispatched to the roof of the net to put us 3-4 to 0-10 up with 10 minutes remaining. For the last 10 minutes with both teams getting tired there was only one more point from Ballylanders. Ballylanders pressurised our goals for the last 5 minutes but our defensive unit stood up to there pressure with some great work by Micheal, Eoin and Graham. With the clock in the red Ballylanders put a free into our square which was cleared by a Dathi Brudairs defenders hand and the referee Seamus Hayes blew the final whistle to scenes of celebrations and we were the County Under 21 B champions.

Chairman of the county board our club man John Cregan presented Micheal Ryan with the cup. Micheal then thanked his fellow players and management team of Kevin Noonan, Kevin McGill, Cillian Fahy and Gareth Meaney and thanked Ballylanders for a great game.

This was a great win for our club bringing back a first Under 21 county in two decades. Great credit is due to our players and management for this great win. Well done lads!!!
