DROMCOLLOGHER/BROADFORD

Result:
West Intermediate Hurling League Round 2
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 1-14
Templeglantine 0-11
A strong first half showing paved the way for Dromcollogher/Broadford to win their opening league game on Tuesday evening against Templeglantine in soft conditions in Dromcollogher. Leading at half time by 1-7 to 0-0 was powered by an excellent work-rate around the field and some tight marking in our backs to prevent chances for our opposition. Keith Lacey was the chief scorer combining some good free taking with an ability to get on the end of some excellent team play to score from play. The key score of the half came just before the whistle when Killian Cahill’s ball in was caught by Michael O’Sullivan who transferred to Sean Ryan who finished to the back of the net and give Dromcollogher/Broadford a comfortable halftime lead. To our visitors credit they battled back at the beginning of the second half with some good scores. Dromcollogher/Broadford did well to weather the storm however with a few more Lacey scores with one from the near right side-line a real highlight and a good finish from Kevin Noonan kept Dromcollogher/Broadford clear of danger as they held on to their hard-earned lead.

West Junior B Hurling League
Croagh/ Kifinny 2-14
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 1-12
On Friday evening, our Junior B hurlers continued their league campaign with a narrow defeat to a strong Croagh/Kilfinny side in a game played to a very high standard.
Dromcollogher/Broadford had a good start with some fine scores from Thomas Fitzgerald, Brian Noonan and Brian Stack keeping us in the hunt while Timmy O’Carroll pulled off an excellent save to keep his goals intact. A key score came for Dromcollogher/Broadford when Brian Stack flicked a lovely hand pass to Sean Ryan who crashed a super finish to the top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. At half-time Dromcollogher/Broadford led by 2 points at 1-6 to 0-7 points.
Croagh/Kilfinny came into the game strongly after half time with some sharp scoring and a goal which evaded the unlucky O’Carroll. To Dromcollogher/Broadford credit, they battled back and the introduction of a few subs bolstered our efforts. Adam Cotter was extremely unlucky not to add another goal as the ball just whistled passed the post off a great run. A couple of points from Thomas Fitzgerald and Brian Noonan kept us in touch and in attempting to grab a vital goal to take the lead Croagh/Kilfinny struck on the break to add another goal and cement their victory. The final margin of five points was probably a bit unfair on our team but the performance should give us great confidence for the remainder of the league campaign where we currently lie 5th with 4 sides qualifying for the semi-final.
Team for Dromcollogher/ Broadford was:
Timmy O’Carroll, Eamonn Ryan, Conor Brosnan (Captain), Adrian Cotter, Chris Cotter, Gerard Noonan, Pat Curtin, Jack Shanahan, Thomas Fitzgerald, Sean Ryan, Brian Noonan, Niall O’Brien, Brian Stack, Paddy Lordan, Michael Barrett.
Subs for Dromcollogher/ Broadford were:
Michael Brennan for Adrian Cotter, Darragh Stack for Pat Curtin, Adam Cotter for Michael Barrett, Kevin Quaid for Paddy Lordan and Dan Curtin for Jack Shanahan, Timmy Brosnan and Conor Falvey.
