DROMCOLLOGHER BROADFORD

JUNIOR A HURLERS BACK INTO A COUNTY FINAL!!!
County Junior A Hurling Championship Semi-Final
Dromcollogher/ Broadford 4-20
Patrickswell 1-28
An epic tussle with a very strong and resilient Patrickswell side with the game decided by a late Keith Lacey free has put us into the final against St. Kieran’s, on Saturday November 5th, in Newcastle West, at 2pm (with extra-time if necessary), referee to be announced.
Our first half performance was full of skill and team play as we manged to take a grip on the game in the last ten minutes of the half. This was aided by two superb goals as Kevin Noonan got onto the end of a Keith Lacey pass to rifle to the net on 12 minutes and this was soon followed by Keith himself receiving an assist from Jack Pierce off a mazy run to smash the ball into the Patrickswell net. Other scores from our half backs Derry and Garrett along with a brace from both Shane Murphy and Damien Burke meant we held a seven point lead at the break. To leave the score at half-time Dromcollogher/ Broadford 2-11 to Patrickswell 0-10.
The second half turned firmly in Patrickswell’s favour and it took all our player’s toughness to ride out the storm and manage to take out to extra-time. A Keith Lacey side-line that managed to end up in the net along with some excellent scores from Kevin Noonan and Derry McCarthy kept us in the game and some tight defending prevented Patrickswell from pushing ahead. This meant extra time was needed to decide the day. To leave the score at full-time Dromcollogher/ Broadford 3-16 to Patrickswell 1-22.
The first period of extra time belonged to Patrickswell as they took a three point lead into the break. Keith and Derry were our scorers in this period. Darragh Stack on his debut for the Junior A team was desperately unlucky for a goal as his snapshot was turned away by the Patrickswell keeper. This left the score at half-time during extra-time Patrickswell 1-27 to Dromcollogher/ Broadford 3-18.
The second period brought a massive response from Dromcollogher/ Broadford as Timmy in goals managed to link up with Sean and Damien off puck outs to get us a foothold up the field. The crucial score of this period came when Sean O’Sullivan squared across and Darragh Stacks flick down landed to the right man in Michael O’Sullivan who finished to the net and breathe new life into our challenge. Patrickswell equalised before a foul from a resulting puck out meant Keith Lacey had a chance to win the game and avoid the lottery of penalties. As he has done all year, he split the uprights to send us into our first final since 2015 and give us the chance to win both hurling and football titles this year for the first time ever in the history of the club. To leave the score at full-time in extra-time Dromcollogher/ Broadford 4-20 to Patrickswell 1-28.
A big thanks to all the supporters who created a great atmosphere during and after the game. And roll on the next two weekends.
