In a really tough battle last Sunday our footballers dug deep to grind out a victory against a very strong St Senan`s outfit. In very wet conditions goals were key on the day with ours coming from Cillian Fahy, Jack Pierce and Derry McCarthy, this win puts back into the County Intermediate Football Championship Final for the first time since 1999.
James Naughton of St. Senan’s and Kevin Noonan of Dromcollogher/ Broadford exchanged points and then St. Senan’s scored the next two points coming from Cormac Woulfe, Oisín O’Farrell to lead by two points. Dromcollogher/ Broadford scored the last 1-1 of the half with the goal coming from Cillian Fahy after a hard run he riffled the ball to the roof of the St Senan`s net and the point coming from Micheál Brosnan to lead by two points at the break. To leave the score at half-time Dromcollogher/ Broadford 1-2 to St. Senan’s 0-3.
St. Senan’s scored the next 1-1 of the game with both scores coming from Darren Lawlor to give them by a lead by two points with 33 minutes gone in the game. We then got the next two points to bring sides back on level terms for the second time with these points coming from Jack Pierce and Derry McCarthy. Jack Pierce scored a goal for Dromcollogher/ Broadford after Kevin Noonan hit the post and then Jack fisted the ball into the back of St. Senan’s net to give us back the lead once again with 34 minutes gone in the game. St. Senan’s got on top then and scored the next 1-1 of the game with the goal coming from Ian Ryan and the point coming from Oisín O’Farrell with 46 minutes gone in the game to give them a lead of one point. We responded well and scored the next of 1-1 with both scores coming from Derry McCarthy he spotted the keeper of his line and he then lob of him with 53 minutes gone in the game to give us a lead of a goal and then James Noonan of Dromcollogher/ Broadford made a great save from Darren Kearans from St. Senan’s to give us victory to us back into a County Intermediate Final for the first time since 1999. A credit is due to both teams who braved the elements and conditions to give a fine display in front a big crowd in Newcastle West.
