Intermediate Hurling:
We played Tournafulla last Sunday in the Bog Garden Rathkeale. It was a very windy damp day but the pitch was in superb condition and well done to Rathkeale for having it in such good nick. We played against the breeze in the first half and had a great start in the first 10 minutes going into a 3 point lead but missed a couple of goal and point chances which allowed Tournafulla grow in confidence. We went in a point up at half time 7-6. We built on our lead in the second half but got as far as 11-6 ahead for a long period but kept missing scorable chances and racking up the wides. The game turned very scrappy with both defences on top and stayed that way till the end. The final score was a win for us 12 points to 7. We play Newcastle West in Round 2 at the same venue this Good Friday at 6.45pm.
U14 Hurling:
Our U14 hurlers played in Feile nanGael last weekend. The group stages were held on Saturday in Claughaun and we had two good wins firstly over Claughaun and then against Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan. The quarter final was held in ballybrown on Sunday morning against an amalgamation of Hospital/Herbertstown and Knockainey. We had beaten them both individually over the last 2 years but this was a tough ask. We played very well in the first half and it was very close but there was quite a size difference across the field. We lost our full back Dara Enright to illness just before half time and they scored a goal right on half time to lead 2.02 to 0.4. The second half proved very tough going with Hospital/Herbertstown/Knockainey taking over and winning well in the end. Our plyaers kept going right till the final whistle and gave everything for the team over the weekend. This group of players have trained very hard since Christmas and while this is a setback, they can look forward to the championship which starts this Wednesday at home v Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcorna at 6.30pm.
U10 Football Blitz:
Our U10s played in their first football blitz of the year in Hospital last Friday. They played 3 matches against Kilmallock, Dromin/Athlacca, and Ballylanders and had 3 wins. Well done to all the players and a big thank you to Trevor Costello, Pa and Theresa Reidy for looking after the team on the night. Thank you aswell for all the parents for coming along to support their kids. A great start to the year!
