CROOM GAA CLUB NOTES

Croom U12s play at half time in National League Final in Croke Park:
Last Sunday was a red letter day for the parish and club as our U12s were invited to play at half time of Limerick’s National League Final in Croke Park. The phonecall came through late on Thursday afternoon and word spread quickly leading to huge excitement. The kids hardly slept for the next 3 nights waiting for Sunday! Organisation went into overdrive and a big thank you to PJ O’Mahony and Breda O’Dwyer for getting things done so quickly. Manning’s bus left Croom early to beat the traffic and road works. The excitement was obvious and the bus was buzzing the whole way up. On arrival, a steward explained the run of the day and everyone was shown to their seats in the lower Davin Stand. The team togged out under the stand 20 minutes before throw in and the jerseys given out. Everyone returned to their seats for the first 25 minutes of the Senior game before the call came to head down to the tunnel and line up beside our opposition, Clan na nGael of Waterford. Both sets of players and management were very excited and friendly and there was a great atmosphere. The teams marched onto the field and it is something they will never forget as the crowd gave a great round of applause. They shook hands and the game started. It was hotly contested with both teams giving everything, and finally ended in a draw so everyone was happy. The teams went back to their seats to enjoy the rest of the game and savour Limerick’s victory. Back on the bus, the players were in joyous mood with lots of singing the whole way home and a pit stop for food in Barack O’Bama Plaza. The bus arrived home at 8.30pm, everyone tired but delighted with such a super ,never to be forgotten, experience. Thank you to all the coaches especially John Dunworth, Chris McAteer and those who helped including James Malone, Martina Reidy, and Alan Sheerin. Thanks also to Kevin Clancy pluming and Broderick’s Spar for sponsoring goodies for the trip.
