CROOM GAA CLUB NOTES

Intermediate Hurling:
Last Saturday we faced our toughest test yet against Na Piarsigh. It was a wet and windy evening in Mungret and both sides gave everything in this hard hitting and keenly contested encounter. It was nip and tuck for the first 15mins, but then Croom scrambled a goal by Eoin O’Farrell. Na Piarsigh scored one of their own but we finished the half strongly and went in 1.09 to 1.07 with James Malone nailing all his placed balls. The battle continued in the second half with both sides having their periods of dominence and both teams nearly getting in for goals, but Mark O’Kelly made a number of important saves especially coming out to smother the full forward as a pass sent him through one on one but Mark came out and blocked the shot and the danger was cleared. We built up a 4 point lead but dropped players back, inviting Na Piarsigh on, and they closed the gap to a single point. The crucial score was a goal by Ryan O’Shea with only a few minutes left and we ran out winners on a scoreline of 2.14 to 1.13. Next up is Knockaderry in round 4 on Saturday at 6pm in Ballingarry.
