CRECORA/MANISTER GAA CLUB NOTES

JUNIOR HURLERS:

Our junior hurlers maintained their unbeaten start to the championship after playing out an exciting draw with Monagea last Saturday night at a balmy Bog Garden in Rathkeale. Despite being down a number of key players, our lads had the better of the opening exchanges with some fine scores from Conor Kirby, Mike Bateman and James Conheady. Monagea stayed in touch mainly through placed balls and gradually started to gain the upper hand in the closing stages of the first half and they went in 0-9 to 0-7 ahead at the break. We were rocked by a harsh sending off at the start of the second half and as the game wore on we struggled to make inroads against a physical Monagea side. In an exciting closing ten minutes, Edwin Wixted pulled on a loose ball in the square to put us a point up. With the lead changing hand several times, trojan work in the back line and midfield by the four Moloneys and Darach Skelly and an equaliser from Edwin ensured we went home from Rathkeale with a point. Next up is a fourth round meeting with Drom-Broadford on the weekend of the 6th September. Team: Steven Keating; Rory Hannan, Niall Moloney, Evan Moloney; Cian Leahy, Darach Skelly, Tim Moloney; Richard Murphy, Karl Moloney; Edwin Wixted, Michael Bateman, James Conheady; Brendan Power, Tomás Connolly, Conor Kirby; Pádraig Byrnes, Donnacha Connolly, Shane O’Connell, Thomas Shanahan, Jack Dalton, Ger Kennedy, Chris Shanahan, Rob Hourigan.

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS:

Best of luck to our junior A footballers who open their championship campaign this Saturday 15th August against Ahane in Monaleen at 7pm. Please contact club secretary for ticket information later in the week.

JUNIOR B HURLERS:

Best of luck to our junior Bs who begin their championship campaign against Na Piarsaigh tonight Tuesday 11th August in Crecora at 7pm.

UNDER 21 HURLERS:

Pride of place this week goes to the under 21s who captured the 13 a Side county title last Wednesday night in Rathkeale with a 2-21 to 2-11 win over Knockaderry in Mick Neville Park. Our lads started well out of the blocks and some fine scores from Cathal O’Neill, Donnacha Connolly, Brendan Power and James Conheady put some daylight between ourselves and Knockaderry. A fantastic save before half time with Ger Kennedy along with a somewhat fortuitous goal from Cathal saw us leading 1-9 to 0-7 at the change of ends. The lads pushed it on at the start of the second half with more points from Donnacha, Richard Murphy and James Conheady and fine work in defence by Pádraig Byrnes, Rory Hannan, Jack Dalton and Tom Shanahan. Shane O’Connor put in great work to set up a fine point for Cathal and a fantastic goal by Cathal with 12 minutes to go killed the game off as a contest. Chris Shanahan also got a fine point as the game finished up 2-21 to 2-11. Team on the night was: Gerard Kennedy; Pádraig Byrnes, Rory Hannan; Thomas Shanahan, Richard Murphy, Jack Dalton; James Conheady, Karl Moloney; Chris Shanahan, Cathal O’Neill, Shane O’Connor; Donnacha Connolly, Brendan Power; Ciaran Humphreys, Michael Fitzgerald; Sam Riordan, Ciarán Kennedy, Fergal Egan. Congratulations also to the management team of Ger Hickey, Ger Dillon, Paddy O’Neill, Gerry McDermott, Niall Conway, Steven Keating and Eoghan O’Callaghan. It is great to see an adult title being brought back to the club for the first time in several years and it bodes well for the club for this year and the next few years that we have fine young talent coming through. Well done to all involved.

MINOR HURLERS:

Best of luck to the minor hurlers (Crecora-Manister/South Liberties) who play their first round of the championship this Friday 14th August v Bruff in Liberties at 7pm.

UNDER 16:

Our under 16 hurlers (Crecora-Manister/South Liberties) began their division 2 campaign last Monday and lost out to Ballybrown. The hurlers’ next game is against Ahane next Monday 17th August at 7pm in Lisnagry. The footballers’ first game is Monday 10th August away to Oola at 7pm.

UNDER 14:

Hard luck to our under 14 hurlers (Crecora-Manister/South Liberties) who lost out against Patrickswell in division 2 of the county championship last Wednesday. The footballers first game is against Adare in Adare this Wednesday 12th August.

UNDER 12 HURLING:

Hard luck to the under 12s who lost out to Cappamore on a 4-5 to 3-7 scoreline last Wednesday night. After a slow start, Crecora raced back into the game and were unlucky to have a goal ruled out that would have snatched a win. Some of the score taking and effort by our young players and their next game is at home to Adare in two weeks time.
