Crecora Manister v Feohanagh Match Report:
Our adult hurlers were in action last Friday evening against Feohanagh in the final round of the City East Intermediate League in Coolyroe. Conditions were excellent for the game and the sun was shining as the ball was thrown in at the start of the game.
We got off to a difficult start and our defence struggled in the early stages of the game. We conceded 2 early goals and by the midway point of the half found ourselves 2-5 to 0-2 in arrears, with points from Edwin Wixted and a free from James Conheady.
After a few positional changes we managed to establish a foothold in the game and started to make inroads into the lead. With 3 points from Edwin, a pair from Brendan Power and one each for Rory Hannan and James Conheady we got to half time with the 2 goals separating the teams on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-09. Half time saw the welcome introduction of Richard Murphy on his return from a serious injury. Richard was quick into the action adding our first point of the second half. Scores were proving more difficult to come by in the second half but points from Richard, Brendan and James kept us in contention. We had a great opportunity to close the gap when we were awarded a penalty midway through the half. James struck the ball cleanly and had the goalie well beaten but the ball came back off the post into play. Feohanagh had a penalty of their own soon after and converted to put the result beyond doubt. However, our lads continued to press and Mark O’Keefe, one of our younger players in his first season with the adult team had a cleanly struck ground shot which hit the net to reduce the gap. Richard and Edwin added late points to leave the final score at 1-16 to 3-15. We had a difficult league campaign but the team showed improvement as the league progressed and have an opportunity now to reset and prepare for championship.
Squad on Friday was Ger Kennedy, Tim Moloney, Colm Parnell, Ciaran Kennedy, Rory Hannan, Thomas Shanahan, Mark Shanahan, Padraig Byrnes, James Conheady, Niall Conheady, Jack Dalton, Edwin Wixted, Brendan Power, Chris Shanahan, Cian Dillon, Ned O’Meara, Damien Kearney, Richard Murphy, Mark O’Keefe.
Scór Sinsir:
Well done to our Rince Foirne Dancers who performed very well in the Castlebar in the All Ireland Scór Sinsir final on Saturday last. While the girls did not defend their All Ireland title from last year they were excellent. Massive thank you to Muirne Bennis, their coach and all those who travelled to Castlebar to support them.
