Intermediate League v St. Kierans:
The 4th round of the City West Intermediate Hurling league was played on Easter Weekend. We welcomed St Kierans to Crecora for our latest game hoping to bounce back after defeat in the last round.
Before the game the squad and management team met with Paul and Jonathan from our sponsors O’Connell Mills. It was an opportunity for them to meet the team and for the group to express their thanks and appreciation for the continued valued support from O’Connell’s Mills
Thankfully by the time the game started the heavy rain had subsided.  This turned out to be a tight game with very little separating the sides and never more than a score between them throughout the contest.
2 early frees from James Conheady got us the scoreboard as the teams traded scores. Chris Shanahan ran on a loose ball to convert another score. By half time Chris and James had added to their totals and we trailed by one point on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-6.
We came out strong in the second half and were leading at the midway point with points from James, Padraig Byrnes and one of the scores of the game from Niall Conheady which he landed from wide on the right. However, a succession of converted frees turned the game in St Kierans favour and we found ourselves 3 adrift entering the closing stages. Rory Hannan advanced on the right hand side and landed a great point to reduce the deficit. We continued to press and Conor Kirby pierced the defence and hit a shot which looked destined for the net but the goalkeeper saved to deny us the lead. The final whistle blew soon after to leave the final score at 0-13 to 0-15.  Squad Ger Kennedy, Cian Dillon, David Rickard, Tim Moloney, Rory Hannan, Thomas Shanahan, Ciaran Kennedy, James Conheady, Mark Shanahan, Niall Conheady, Ciaran Cusack, Chris Shanahan, Brendan Power, Conor Kirby, Padraig Byrnes, Stephen Keating, Damien Kearney, Edwin Wixted, Mark O’Keefe, Mike Fitzgerald, Conor Hannan, Ned O’Meara.
