Crecora Manister GAA Club Notes:
Under 21 Hurling Championship:
Our U21s are amalgamated with South Liberties and they got their campaign in the U21 A Hurling
Championship off to a winning start in Dooley Park on Saturday 7th October against Kilmallock.
This was a very enjoyable game which turned out to be a high quality, high scoring affair with strong displays from both teams.
Kilmallock had the better of the exchanges in the early part of the first half helped by 3 goals scored in the first 15 minutes.
Points from Cathal O’Neill and Darragh Godfrey helped us to settle into the game and then Chris Shanahan narrowed the gap by slicing through the defence and adding an emphatic finish to the net. We continued to press forward with Cathal, Chris and Darragh adding to their totals and Rory Hannan also getting on the scoreboard.
Ben Compton gathered a pass and broke past his marker to finish to the net prior to half time to give us a lead at the short whistle of 2 – 11 to 3 – 6.
The game continued at a fast pace in the second half and the accuracy of Darragh from frees added to points from Cathal and Rory enabled us to extend our lead.
Midway through the second half Darragh struck for a goal and soon after Ben Garry made a decisive save from a free and from there, we were able to see out the game.
We added further points from Sean Enright and Ciaran Kennedy to leave the final score 3 – 19 to 3 – 12.
Junior A Hurling Championship:
We played the Quarter Final of the Junior A Hurling Championship Tuesday night 3rd October under lights in Knocklong v Kilteely Dromkeen.
After a good run of form, the team arrived with hopes of progressing to the next round.
We got off to the worst possible start by conceding 2 goals within the first 10 minutes.
We recovered well from the initial setup and had our best spell from there to the half time whistle.
Points from Cathal O’Neill, Conor Kirby and Cormac Flanagan helped to reduce the deficit to
3 points as we went into the break on a scoreline of 0 – 8 to 2 – 5.
A good start in the second half was required to bridge the gap and we dominated the early proceedings.
Unfortunately we didn’t turn this dominance into scores and a number of wides meant we were still chasing the game.
We conceded a couple of frees which were converted to make our task ever harder.
We continued to press in search of scores but we only added 4 points to our first half total.
Ultimately the 2 early goals were to prove the difference between the 2 teams.
This is a young team which undoubtedly has the potential to improve and progress in the years ahead.
Thanks to all the players and management team for their efforts throughout the year.
