Crecora/Manister GAA Club Notes:

City East Intermediate League:
We had our opening game in the City East Intermediate League last Saturday night against our neighbours Patrickswell. We emerged victorious on a scoreline of 1-22 to 2-15 in a fine game which was keenly contested from start to finish with the result in the balance right up to the last minute.
Both teams were on the scoreboard early and traded point for point throughout the first half.
Conor Kirby and David Power kept the scoreboard ticking over for us with accuracy from dead balls. Coming up to half time we had a couple of goal efforts which were saved and Patrickswell got their noses in front with a goal of their own to leave us trailing by 2 points at half time on a score of 0-9 to 1-8.
After an exchange of scores early in the second half, we took control of the game with 5 points in succession.
Chris Shanahan came to prominence in the second half and finished with a total of 5 points and was unlucky not to add a green flag to his total.
Conor Kirby continued to add to his total from placed balls and open play.
Rian O’Byrne, Richard Murphy and Darach Skelly pushed us forward and got their names on the scoresheet also.
However, Patrickswell continued to press and with another goal, the game was evenly balanced heading into the final few minutes.
They added another point but scores from Mike McCormack and Conor Kirby edged us ahead.
A converted free meant the teams were level again.
With both teams striving for possession, Mike McCormack got on the ball on the right touchline and played the ball towards goal where Damien Kearney got the final touch for a decisive goal.
We closed out the game with another point to give us a 4 point win.

Intermediate football league:
In our first Intermediate game of the season we faced senior team Galbally at home on March 25th.
Galbally got off to a flying start with a point scored in the first few minutes of the game.
After a few near misses, Crecora Manister responded with a point of our own.
However, Galbally upped the tempo and scored their 1st goal in response.
As opening nerves settled, the pace of the match increased and Galbally being a senior team had seven points to their credit at half time which Crecora Manister made them earn through their increased physicality.
In the second half, Crecora Manister scored 3 points in response to 3 goals and 8 points from Galbally.
Conor Kirby scored a fantastic goal from play, well supported by his team mates.
In addition, a penalty was awarded in Crecora Manister’s favour, which we scored.
Galbally had that extra edge on the day and the match ended with Galbally as winners on a score of 4-15 to Crecora Manister’s 2-4.
Full credit to our lads on the day, they put in a great performance.
