U12 Hurling Championship
Cappamore 5-02
Kilmallock 10-03
Venue: Cappamore
In our first competitive match of the season we came up against a very strong Kilmallock side.
From the throw in Kilmallock won the ball and moved it quickly to their inside forward line where their impressive full forward caught the ball, turned and scored their first goal after only 20 seconds. We knew then it was going to be a tough match. Kilmallock then knocked over a point. But our lads recovered form the early set back and got stuck into the opposition. Three first half goals from Chris Smith, Darragh O’Shaughnessy and Alex Heney brought Cappamore back into the game and at half time we led by a point, 3-02 to 3-01.
In the second half though Kilmallock got on top, they had some very strong hurlers, especially around the middle of the field and a very good full forward, who caused us lots of problems when he got on the ball. Our boys never gave up and battled to the very end. and we added two more second half goals, but Kilmallock continued to bang in the goals and it finished on a scoreline of 10-03 to 5-02.
A big thank you and congratulations to our referee on the night Daniel O’Donnell who was making his refereeing debut. He had good game, got on well with players and always explained why he was giving a free against a player. Best of luck Daniel.
