JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL: What a game we witnessed last Friday night in Rathkeale – we didn’t play our best hurling in the first 50 mins of the game, but by God did we show some heart & grit in those last 10 mins to win the game! It was a fairly even start to the game, 3 points apiece at the first water break 15 mins in. St Patrick’s kept us to just one score in the 2nd quarter, our accuracy probably not where it needed to be, while they knocked over 4, to lead at half time 0-07 to 0-04. 5 mins into the second half, St Patrick’s had 3 more points added on to lead by 6 points and going into the second water break 18 mins into the second half, they were up by 5. St Patrick’s had it out to a 6-point lead again 2 mins later and we knew we needed something big to happen to try to reel them in. Two points from play & a free from Andrew in response to another point from St Patrick’s closed the gap a bit and then, up stepped Curley to rattle the St Patrick’s net with about 4 mins left in normal time, game on, Caherline just a point down. We had St Patrick’s rattled and they failed to score for the remainder of the game and as the physicality from both sides stepped up, so did our resolve to win this one and points from Andrew (2), Paraic & Curley put us 3 points up with 3 mins played over the 30. When Johnny Murphy blew the final whistle seconds later, the pitch invasion started, brilliant scenes and well deserved!! Final score, Caherline: 1-13(16) St Patrick’s: 0-13(13). We will meet St Kieran’s in the County Final in two weeks’ time. U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP: We came up against a very strong St Kieran’s side on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon in our U-19 championship semi-final, St Kieran’s taking the win 2-19 to 1-11. We were only a point down at half time after a very even first half of hurling, but in the second half, St Kieran’s did major damage in the 3rd quarter. Despite Jake Kennedy hitting the net from a penalty in the 22nd min, the gap was too much and St Kieran’s took the win. U-13 HURLING: Another good run-out for our U-13’s on Sunday evening in wintry conditions against Sean Traceys in the semi-final of our Slieve Felim competition.
