Lyons of Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi-Final
Premier Intermediate Hurlers loose out at Semi-Final Stage.
On Saturday afternoon last October 4th. Neighbours Blackrock and Effin met in Lyons of Limerick, County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi-Final in Killmallock, played in very windy conditions. Playing with the strong wind in the opening half, Blackrock raced into a 0.08 to 0.02 lead after 19 minutes of play, the scorers were Colm O’Keeffe 0.03f, Paudie Leahy 0.02, Marty Farrell 0.02, 1f, Jimmy Quilty, in the remaining 11 minutes of the half, Effin added 1.03 to 002 for Blackrock, Ciaran Considine and Paudie Leahy the scorers to leave the scoreboard reading at the interval Blackrock 0.10 Effin 1.05. Effin scored their second goal seconds into the second half to go into a one point lead, both sides exchanged two pointed frees, the Blackrock scorers were Colm O’Keeffe and Paudie Leahy, the equalising point came from Jimmy Quilty after 40 minutes of play Blackrock 0.13 Effin 2.07. the following 15 minutes saw Effin get on top and added 2.05 to their total without reply. In the fifth fifth of play Blackrock were awarded a free from the 21 metre line which was sent to the net by Paudie Leahy, the same player won possession and headed goal-wards and took a shot which went just inches wide of the upright. Effin finished stronger and added two points, one from a free to seal the victory on a score-line Effin 4.14 Blackrock 1.13 and a place in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Final.
